Buying a used bass online.

I must be spoiled, been shopping at Mr Music in Boston for 30+ years, the kind of shop you can go in and plug something in without asking, I've never picked up anything that needed set up adjustments in there. I wouldn't buy an instrument from a shop that wouldn't let me adjust it if I wanted to. the first 5 string bass I ever tried in a shop was an Ibanez soundgear, in some chain store, and I hated it. some time later I actually bought it, it had been set up properly.

I think the only downside to online buys is the freight cost. $30 or more to get it and the same cost to send it back, if needed. Everything I have bought has been "as described", I have never had a bad experience. Buying from a known seller that has good feedback is key. They try very hard to protect their reputation.

What are the chances that I won't like how the one I buy online plays? Where ever you buy from, ask a lot of questions and be clear on the responses. If you get a bad vibe or the seller is evasive in any way DON'T BUY. You can get burned here on TB just as easy as any where else. Use paypal if you can that way you have protection if something goes wrong. Don't fall for the I don't want to pay the fees thing, or gift me the money thing. If you do that you have no protection. Or if you don't use paypal try to use some form of credit card. That way It's easier to dispute if you get ripped off. Be careful buying a used (or new) bass sight un-seen.
