Buying freeze till 2026

I flipped ~40 basses in a decade. Some were flips for profit when I was in school and needed a way to make $ with gear. Some were attempts to find “the one”.
About 3 years ago I found my #1s (5 string Dingwall Z3 and then a 4 string Super J that I modded into a PJ). Over the years, I had other really nice Dingwalls that didn’t stick around. I had just sold what was supposed to be my ultimate bass (Wal mk 2 5er) and I was bummed because I had wanted a Wal forever. I was disgusted with all the flipping I had done to land flat. I decided to go back to the brand that had made me happiest over my bass trying adventures (Dingwall). I decided to go all in and went for a more aggressive preamp(Darkglass Tone Capsule) and different woods than I had before in an attempt to get the sound in my head. It worked (thank goodness)!
I also have a nice fretless (had it for a year) and have been lucky to have a few over the years.
I would say that I still want 2 or 3 specific basses but I am not GASsing or looking for them (because they are expensive).

I envy folks that can plunk down 6, 7, 8 grand for a bass. I’ve never swam in that kinda tax bracket. I think it makes it easier for me to stay on my buying freeze knowing dream instruments like this will likely never be an option for me. Stunning bass.
I've heard people say the same thing and I was in the camp for a long time. Then I realized owning one extremely nice bass that inspires you is in many ways better than owning 5-6 that are there sitting around for variety.
I’ve kinda topped out at $2500. Import Spector’s, Japan Sadowskys, I even had a US Ken Smith chuck Rainey 5. Early series US Lakland , but this was when you could get those for around that price. I didn’t find them to be more inspiring than my current stable. I have a Ibanez single cut that I got at a deep discount because it needed some love. I touched it up, repaired all the electrics, and now it’s one of my favorite bases to play. but yes, I will always be in awe of Rolls-Royce caliber basses. I’m just not certain they would inspire me more than what I already have.
Made it through Black Friday without buying a thing. ( but boy I really was Jonesin’ over a sire Z3 n Black Metallic, and a Sadowsky Japan Metroline MV5 in the classifieds) but I DIDNT buy anything! Ha ha!!!
Not a typo. No basses next year. Actually, I’m selling most everything. Strongly leaning towards leaving the US. Considering Spain, or maybe Montenegro. But thats a discussion for another thread.
I’m on a buying freeze forever !! But that all friends in whether or not EBMM or Sandberg build a better version of what I’ve already purchased from them . Those BFR and Limited Edition Signature models are dangerous !!!
