Double Bass C# Capo?

I'm going to get a C extension for my Juzek bass. I can imagine, based on my playing with a concert band, that I'll get a lot of use of an Eb capo, and a D capo seems useful for a fair amount of orchestral music. But I can't decide if it's worth the money to have a C# capo. Opinions?

In my playing career I have used the C# far less than the others, but it sure is nice to have when you do see that note on the page.

I got my extension with a D capo. Within a year I added the other two. Save yourself a trip to the luthier and get all 3.

Being a gadget guy, I lust for an extension, and I'd get all capos available, but it would have to wait until that day when I've got a wooden DB...

I just couldn't forgive myself for modifying that beautiful aluminum scroll.

Ime, roughly $2000US for one with individual gates. You do not want to be the second, or third customer. Extensions and integrating them on an existing instrument are a tricky business.

But you got me thinking - how many of us are sorry we spent money on our basses or related gear? Our spouses may be sorry - or maybe that should be ex-spouses - but I doubt many of us are. Just sayin' ...

It turned out great. Away now but will post pix tomorrow.

Intonation of fretted/capo-ed instruments is half science and half magic. My extension seems perfectly in tune to me. Piano tuning, which I do, is mostly magic if you ask me. Intonation …

I rarely use the C#, but D flat is my go to setting.....

If it's in tune, leave it alone. Keiran can give you instructions on how to tune the closed E relative to the open C if you need to. It's easy. The capos themselves are adjustable for intonation as well, but I've never had any need to touch them.

I've played two rehearsals with it so far, still getting used to managing the whole endeavor, but it sounds just fine in tune to me.
