Sure, the mic distance is basically your wet/dry setting when recording an instrument in a room.
What I meant was that I never succeeded to capture (or find/buy from a 3rd party) an IR which would replicate that correctly, it never sounded as good.
That's unfortunate.
IR is short hand for "Convolution Reverb Impulse Response" and they got their start will room reverbs, halls, theaters, cathedrals, ...
I know I have plenty or IRs for rooms. Some software makers like IK Multimedia add room mics along with the cabinet. IK's are proprietary format though and only dynamically with with their products.
