Hey all, hope this is the correct forum for this.
I am planning on doing some mods to my aguilar gs112 (mostly for fun and looks not performance). I am planning on ripping off the rat fur and refinishing with duratex or similar product - question #1 Has anyone ripped off carpet before and have any advice on problems encountered, advice etc?
Secondly, I would like to make a new grill cover for it out of tweed fabric - question #2 Has anyone made fabric grills and can give me advice on how to go about this and where to buy materials?
Thanks so much everyone - my hope is to have two of these matching just because I think it would look kinda cool :hyper:.

I am interested in this as well. I used to own several carpet covered cabs in the 90's and HATED the look. It gets all pilled and ratty like a cheap polyester suit. Besides, if you have a cat or dog that sheds it will get infested with animal hairs tha no lint brush can remove!
So yeah, I have some emotions on the subject. I was looking at those aggies but the carpet covering alone dissuaded me.

i removed carpet and applied duratex to an old swr cab of mine. it's a nasty job. the carpet was glued on so strongly that it actually peeled off a bit of plywood in one spot. i used a grinder to help remove some of the old glue. i would suggest practicing on a cab first before trying it on a keeper. later, ron

^ I am really expecting it to be a PITA to get it off. A practice cab would be nice but no such luck. Patience will be needed I am sure. Any thoughts on the fabric grill? I have never even owned one so I am not even sure now they are supported and attached.

Haven't removed the rat hair from my SWR 4-10 yet,but from previous experience in removing glued tolex applying heat will make initial removal easier, maybe a little gooey.follow with paint stripper cause the more you hack at the glue, the more ingrained into the wood it will get.And any glue left will cause differences in shade and gloss of the refinish.
