Cab to pair with Marshall VBA 400?

I pair my VBA400 with either a Bergantino NV610 or NV425, and it kills. Tone and punch for days, and more power than I could ever legally use.

On paper the 400 watts may look small compared to many of the high-wattage solid state heads available, but this sucker holds its own against my QSC PLX3002 in the unscientific realm of listening. Also, in a world where most of the big tube amps have been 300W, the 400W VBA400 IS one of the more powerful amps out there.

Given correct impedance matching, there's probably not a cab out there that this head can't power.

Got my VBA 400 this week and plugged it into a Hartke VX215 cab, 500W @ 4 Ohms. Sounds terrific and no strain on the Hartke box. My matching VBC 212 Marshall cab arrives next week so I can play into either or both a the same time.

Bit on confusion taking place here when talking Marshall 810 cabs, to the poster that stated that Marshall cabs are ported, there are 2 versions of the 810 with the designates MBC and VBC.
The MBC is half the price of the VBC and is ported, made in Asia and matched to the Hybrid 450W head. The VBC is sealed, advertised as "One Piece" construction, (can't wait for mine this week as I can't imagine how that do that without hollowing out a tree)and made un teh UK.

When talking cabs, construction is possibly more important that the watts of the speakers and the Ohms of the cab. HiFi nuts always put half of the funds into the speakers but musicians never did. It was always Guitar, head, then speakers when the cash was rolled out.

I've used this head with the matching cab as backline supplied by Marshall. For my taste, I wasn't terribly impressed with the matching cab. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the cab is ported. Not really my thing. The rig was plenty loud for me!

If the amp was mine, I'd pair it with an Ampeg 810. That would sound more old-school than the matching Marshall cab.

The VBC810 is definitely sealed.

I don't have the VBA400, but I do run a VBC810 with my SVT :)

The thick ply, metal skid rails and kick plate, plus the pop out handle on the underside are all nice features. IMO it's built much better than Ampeg 810s (particularly those that were coming out at the same time).

Sound wise, it's still got that vintage vibe to it, quite heavy sounding with a bit of a bump in the low-mids. It isn't going to give you a modern sound and doesn't have a crisp high end. But damn, it sounds awesome in the mix (well, at least for rock based music).

I have a Trace tube head with 6 x 6550's in it. There really is something great about the way sealed enclosures sound with this head. I have had the head a long time, but never had a sealed enclosure since i bought it. My keys player rents backline gear and has and Ampeg 8x10 Classic. It is a great match with the all tube head!
