Hmmmm,... I may have to try out a TV Jones afterall. I've been very happy with my stock MIM Cabronita, but I wouldn't kick any extra low end out of bed! ;-)

I would be surprised if there was any.

I've never used a TVJ bass pickup but I own or have owned most of his guitar pickups. Two things strike me about this:

1. The guitar Fidelitrons are clones of TV Classics. And they sound identical. So I would go forward with the assumption that the bass version is a Thundertron clone; it specs the same, FWIW.

2. The Supertron and Thunderblade are just TV Classics and Thundertron, respectively, with blades instead of pole screws. Same windings, which means same output. The extra metal in the coil means more inductance, which means less highs. That's not exactly the same as more bass.

Yeah, I wouldn't go with the blades - just the regular Thundertron. I could get down with a Fidelitron with more windings to have even less treble but more bass. For me, the Cabronita is all about pick-rock tones.

In that case I'm certain it won't sound any different than the stocker. These are good pickups.

TVJ doesn't make 'strong' bass pickups like he does guitar. You've got the bass equivalents of the Classic, the Super, and the Magna - all vintage strength (and pretty much all the same coils, just different poles/mag structures).

No Powertron equivalent. As my son would say, "sad face".

This is a Squier I'm talking about. ASATMAN, did your MIM cab come with strings thru body? It would be awesome if I could mod my squier and put some ferrules in. But sounds like an expensive job.
No, but I'm going to install a string thru body 2 saddle bridge that does require ferrules. Hopefully it doesn't turn out like a Homer Simpson spice rack.

This is probably a stupid question, but did you 'test fit' the bridge?

I ask because I looked at a two-saddle for mine, but I'd have had to shim the neck - the saddles are so thick (in diameter) that they'd have to be sitting on the baseplate to get the action right, and then there'd be hardly any break angle over them.

Might be that yours has smaller saddles than the one I looked at, but figure it can't hurt to mention.

Quick question. I'm having some grounding issues on the cab and the TV Jones pickup I just installed. It starts humming whenever I touch the pickup with my fingers. What do you guys think it might be?
Everything is soldered correctly, although the white "hot" wire is stripped to a point that theres wire exposed...would that be the issue?

Did you ground the braided wire?

You should have three conductors - a white, a black, and bare braid. Ground the braid and one of the others (doesn't matter which with only one pickup), and use the last for 'hot'.

No test fit beforehand. But it's all assembled now and I find the saddles actually ride higher than on my other basses with the same bridge. So shimming might not be necessary.

Will be tweaking her tonight and hopefully have pics tomorrow. Very happy with the string thru bridge mod though.

They are all braided together...only the hot is alone. Thw black "ground" wire is braided with another bare wire, although they are tinned and neat. This is how I wired it.

Maybe it's the jack that fits so tight in the cavity?
