Shielding the pickup cavity would be pointless. The pickup is encased in metal, which is grounded, and the cable itself is shielded. The only place you could possibly have shielding issues is the control cavity, which AFAIK already has conductive paint.

Anyone got any experience with the CS Proto bass? I'm digging the Lake Placid Blue that MF has.
Of course, there's the matter of the 5X price differential...but I noticed that the pickup is placed a little bit further rearward on it; as best as I can scale with online images, it's between a half and three-quarter inch closer to the bridge, compared to the Cab. I doubt it's really audible, but I'm curious.

There's some really sweet instruments on this thread. I've always liked the idea of a single humbucker in the mid position. Got me wondering, where did Fender get the idea for the Cabronita?

Yeah, it's was at least half tongue in cheek, there are alot of similarities though...
I've really liked the Cabronita basses (Fender and Squier) that I've had the chance to play. I feel like it really takes the '51 P concept to a new (possibly better) place.
However, since I got the T-45, that GAS has passed. Very similar vibe to a Cabronita, but has a bit more tonal flexibility with the coil tapping ability and unique (very weird) dual tone arrangement.

I ordered a Custom pickup by BASSCULTURE for my Cabronita.
A splitcoil P-Bass pickup that fits in a cabronita (with larger 6mm magnets for more power).

TV Jones has one similar pickup, the Thunder'Mag. Basically same layout as yours.
Yes, but the Thunder'Mag doesn't sound like a P-Bass splitcoil.
The Fidelitron an the TV Jones pickups sound similar.
In my opinion they lack the nice attack of a P-Bass.
They sound too spongy for me.
I wanted more attack.
The Pickup Christoph of Bassculture made for me as more attack and punch.
It sounds amazing.

Ok, time for me to play hipocrit (certainly not the first time). As someone who replaced the OEM Cabronita pickup with a TV Jones Thunderblade I wonder why some feel the need to replace the original pickup. The original sounds amazing and not sure I hear much of a difference with the TV Jones, especially considering price and work to replace (although replacement was pretty easy).
Don't get me wrong, I love to mod, as you can see, but how many would have left the original pickup after replacing? Knowing then what I know now I'd probably would have left it be. My band mates loved the tone as is.
Having said the above, I still love to see other's custom creations.

That's great! Do you mean it sounds like a real P-bass now?
The only reason I can think of is the "like how it looks/not satisfied with how it sounds".

About the sound, I don't know. The attack is way more P-bass now but it sounds broad and balanced like the Fidelitron to me. I think that's caused by its position which is different than a usual Precision pickup.
Looks like musiciansfriend and GC are selling Cabronita's for $399. GC has only the sunburst and MF has black and burst, both out of stock. I wonder if Fender is discontinuing it.
