Cali 76, best, most effective, favorite settings?

Now with that being the case people making a big deal over the variable ratio of the Cali vs fixed ratio of the empress seems kind of pointless now right.

I used to have that pedal. When I got it I reached out to Ian Allison since he’s big on Cali76. He directed me to an Instagram video he did years ago about how he likes to setup his compressor. I have no idea where that video is, but it was worth a deep dive to find it.
I now play an Empress MKII and use the same approach I learned in that tutorial.

I don’t have a pic, but this is about what I dial in. It’s kinda light compression that evens, enhances and punches.

Input: Passive bass-11-12 o’clock
Active bass-9-10 o’clock

Output: 11 o’clock

Dry: 12-1 o’clock

Ratio: 10-11 o’clock

ATT/REL: 3 o’clock

HPF: 3-4 o’clock

I have the Empress for 4:1 compression, 23ms attack, 110ms release, HPF at 10 o'clock, Mix at 2 o'clock.
And the Cali76 on steroids, 10:1 ratio, 5.1ms/73ms attack/release, HPF at 200Hz, 50/50 compressed/uncompressed for parallel/NY Style compression (at 10 o'clock is the unity gain for my wet signal, and at 2 o'clock is for the dry).

Because I have two compressors on my board it's redundant to set them to do the same thing. The other setting I often use on Cali76 is this (but it's way too close to the Empress setting to use on a pedalboard that has both compressors):

these are excellent settings.

My clone settings. I like to keep attack relatively fast (around 11 if you can't see) with some dry mixed in. Adds nice sustain without eating all the transients.

For more percussive feel I crank the attack clockwise, no dry, boost even more ratio to around 10 and back up some input.
