Calling all headbangers-Need help completing a playlist project.

I always thought their albums were very well produced. I know they self produced some, if not all of them. Other than the physical CD or a stream, idk where to get a copy that won't be compressed from uploading and downloading haha plus mp3s are already compressed as it is (as you said). I'm not sure how you are acquiring these tracks, but see if you can find it in .wav form. Way bigger file but it will sound clean.

While realizing that for some, Sabbath is the big bang of metal, the tipping point, and for others, Zep is the fulcrum(and I ain’t getting in the middle of that), are you going to take into account what came before, the heavy/hard rock of the late 60’s/early 70’s, power trio type stuff(but not necessarily three piece bands)? If so, may I suggest...

Then there’s all the bands who are brought up in barroom arguements over what is ‘metal’, from Iron Butterfly/Steppenwolf to Sir Lord Baltimore/Dust, not to mention early UFO. But I guess one criteria is how far away a band is from the Cream/blues influence model.

For this particular playlist I am sticking to things that are metal without a doubt. One of my criteria for it was that if I was questioning it-it doesn't go on. However, I do love and appreciate these hard rock and proto-metal bands, and there is a second playlist in the works that includes those bands along side things like ACDC, the Who, and the Stones.

One that immediately comes to mind after looking at your playlist is the Melvins. They were key to the beginning of sludge metal. I also don't think I saw Sunn O))) on there, who are huge for Drone.

As far as post-2000 specifically, there was a brief thrash revival and the first band that comes to mind for me is Skeletonwitch. (They've since gone in a different direction.) This song rips:


I'll probably think of more stuff...

I absolutely have to get this Skeletonwitch song and some Melvins on there, probably gonna go with Revolve. The thing about including Sun O))) is that those songs are very long which makes them kinda throw off the playlist. They are a band you really want to listen to an album start to finish to appreciate.

Maybe some Earth instead of Sunn O))) (not that Earth's songs are short either).
