Callowhill Basses? What do you think?

I'm having a hard time reconciling all of the posts about how he's "the real deal" and a "super awesome guy" with all of the negativity on that page. Completely regardless of whether he's right or wrong, or whether I agree with him personally, there is no justification for s#!++ing on other peoples' work in order to promote your own. As a professional buyer, any time I meet with a broker or vendor and they start trash-talking their competition or predecessors, I show them the door.
Unrelated to all that, I hate the aesthetic geometry of his J, particularly the headstock shape. Really poor visual design IMO, especially considering how nice his custom-design basses look.

After speaking with Tim several times, I don't believe he is "s#!++ing on other peoples' work in order to promote his own". I think a person's work will speak for itself. I own a cabinet shop also and can tell you from example, that great design without high standards of construction will get you broke. But there is an unbelievible force called public perception that will push many businesses into the black. Public perception of a product comes from many different factors. Fender's came from that unbelievible tone and playablity; and honestly what else was there back then? You know, I think his take on the Jazz is very visually pleasing and I really like the headstock. I guess to each his own and you might try talking to the man before you show him the door. I see you have a Valenti on order, I really like those basses. Very nice basses.

Yes, it should, that's my point. Maybe Tim's a nice guy in person, but all I was commenting on is that one page on his website, which completely turns me off as a potential customer. Most customers aren't going to have long personal chats with a builder if they get turned off right away by the website or marketing.
I'm guessing you mention that because Callowhill will be making the body and neck for that Valenti. A sly dig? Anyway, I don't in any way doubt that Tim's actual construction quality is very high, and I'm putting my trust in Nino to provide a good product regardless of supplier. And, more to the point, I placed that order well before reading Tim's website.
You are right about the point from a marketing standpoint. I know, if it was me, I might believe a certain way, but it is better not to display my opinions for everyone to read, especially when trying to sell to the public. The posting on his site is probably too harsh.

Hey Tim, I kind of regret bringing it up. It wasn't anything for anybody to get their panties in an uproar about. I'm all about freedom of speech and/or expression and I hate to think about content being stricken from the web cause of me. Sorry. Mea culpa I think.

it was nice.It had more of a modern tone going for it,and I already have a bass that does that. however I guess with todays boutique bass prices,I guess it's a pretty nice deal,but with that being said I'll pass
Tim is an abrasive man lol.He's also one of the coolest, nicest, and most talented people I've ever met. I have played 4 seperate basses of his and own one myself. I've played everything from sadowsky to ken smith to fodera to pedulla and i can easily say this unequivocally: Out of the dozens upon dozens of basses i've played Only two have ever felt, played, or sounded near as good as my DH6. And only one is actually even with it.

Tim your stirring up controversy. I love it! You know guys, right wrong or indifferent, I love it when people have opinions. It's what separates us from sheep. The junk is cool. It takes a normal boring Jazz bass and gives it a bit of snarl. Kinda like a good boy gone bad, but still sings in church.
Just wanted to say that Tim sent me a nice PM, very very very friendly, talking about his work and where he's coming from. He's obviously a smart and thoughtful guy. I think I misconstrued his vibe from his site. At any rate, carry on with the Callowhill bass admiration!

Junk bass really reminds me of my Roscoe Beck 5,but i like the thick headstock,thick nut and inlays,i would love to own a JUNK
if i were a richer man,i would play a CALLOWHILL anyday and all day.I love the headstock and think it's very attractive,it's fat,rough,rugged and raw looking,it just says lets FUNK to me.

i sent tim an email about getting a 4 string jazz built...i haven't been able to dig up any pictures, reviews or whatnot concerning a 4 string...anyone here check one out? i'm thinking of having one built...ash/maple/maple, nordstrand big singles, 'two seven' spacing, aguilar 2 band preamp..i saw a couple youtube vids of the 5 in action...sounded awesome! opinions??
Sounds like a great combo man. I think that two-seven spacing is what Maurice uses on his Junk, so it should be a slap monster with huge bottom.
