Camping + acoustic bass=?

I want to go camping and bring my Ibenez acoustic 4-string. I don't have a case for it. I've thought of wrapping it in a towel and/or leaving it in my tent. Would doing this for 3-4 days put my bass in high risk for warping?

Depends on where you go. How much hotter/colder/more or less humid it is there in comparison to your home (or wherever the bass normally stays).

Are you driving up and going to be near your vehicle? I'd leave it in there over the tent any day.

More like melting if you put it in a closed tent or vehicle during the day. How about stowing it in a breathable water repellant bag (gortex) and hanging it in a tree? :D

Can you afford the loss if the bass doesn't survive?

At least give it an even chance: get a decent quality gig bag to help protect from the elements.

Plus, a gig bag, in most cases, will let you carry the bass on your back while you carry the rest of your gear with your hands.

If it were mine, & I couldn't/wasn't willing to at least spring for a gig bag, I'd leave it at home.

Also be careful of lotions, sun screen, bug spray and other applicants’ that might be on your hands, arms and leg that come in contact with the guitar. I have heard horror stories about discolored finishes that some times looks like solvents have been applied.

Sorry to say it, but why not take/buy a cheap acoustic bass? I planned on taking mine with me to the ocean on vacation, and camping in the summer, but decided with my pops to take his guitar.

Im happy I did.

+1

A good reminder at this time of year, thank you.

Bug spray and basses should NOT mix, and we're not just talking abouit ABGs either.

The contractor bag sounds like a good idea. All-in-all, I can't afford to lose this bass. I've brought my 5 string squire w/ my little 4" amp camping before, so I'll pry just do that. Thanks for all the responses. - bc

if you're just playing solo for yourself, why not get a dragonfly headphone amp (from the TB store)

stethoscope with suction cups...

Or a battery powered amp.

take a cheapo solidbody you can stand melting.

Campfire bass is boring. Grotto bass can be cool.

Guitars are louder and can be more fun.
