campus crime :(

i work at the nysc(a gym chain on the east cost) and i have the opening shift 3 days of the week, which means i need to be there by 5am.... anyway, a lot of people come to work out in the morning ands tart forming lines outside... most of them are women who want to work out before work, and when they hand me their key cards(attached to their keys) i usually notice pepper spray attached to it too. but this one woman came in last week with one of those old school foot long tasers in herhand, the one from the batman movie with catwoman in it lol.... that woman dont take shist from noone

I didn't get the Kubotan.Does it grow larger like a baton or is it just like a small flashlight?

I guess it can hurt like a mofo if you manage to get the hit, which is perfect for my hurt right hand,as with one powerful punch to the face I can smash the face (I did thai-boxing back in day and can punch with my full body force+my boned knuckles) but if I punch that hard I won't be able to use my hand for a few months, its terribly hurt.I'd rather use the weapon.

I went to pharmacy school in a particularly bad part of tone. Always had a knife, made sure I stayed in during the late night hours, wore running shoes (and kept a 5 minute mile), etc. Still sucks that I know someone who was attacked and raped one night. I was always a tad upset with myself when I found out I wasn't too far away from when and where it happened, but didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. :(

A Kubotan is a wonderful self-defense device. It looks like just some clunky keychain, but it can quite easily cause severe pain to an attacker.

The only disadvantage with Kubatons is that for women, they may not be very effective against men who can easily overpower them. Weapons that require the victim to be right up close to the attacker are always risky because they have a high possibility of being taken away, especially in an instance of a 220 lb. man and a 100 lb. female. In this case, an "equalizing" weapon that doesn't require close physical contact may be better. Tazers work well, but can be 100% useless if the attacker is wearing a heavy coat.

There's a reason the police don't JUST carry tazers or batons. They also carry more reliable and more effective tools for self defense.

I believe there is an air-taser, wich is probably for the military, that can go through a light flack jacket.

However its been posted before that Sneaker-fu is the best way to defend yourself.

There was a homicide on our campus last year, no weapons were involved.

We have armed robberies, sexual assaults, drugs, gangs activity... all weekly on our campus.

Guess that's what happens when you put a college in a poor town 10 minutes away from Camden NJ and Philadelphia.

I also carry a knife. It's definitely an illegal knife, blade is probably about 5 inches long.. but I'd rather sit in a 5 x 8 cell than lay in a 2 x 6 coffin.

Edit: I'm referring to Rowan University in Glassboro NJ, not The College of New Jersey, which I am assuming is what Relic was talking about.

Yep - College of NJ.
