Can a brothah get a MM Stingray 6 string?

Actually, you need more of this:

Stealth,

are you sure that was made by Fender? The bass in the Smooth Criminal video was made by Kenneth Brase (sp?) Tye has a 6-string that says "Fender" on the head stock, but i believe he built it himself?

No, he is definitely a custom shop artist, I remember years ago he was one of the artists in their Frontline catalogue. He was the only 6 player I remember, and his signature was the most different Fender artist model I had/have ever seen.

And as somebody else mentioned, the Fender Custom Shop is where dreams are built. If you want it, they do it, whether it is a Fender thing or not. They have done neck-thru strats so I would have to imagine they have done neck-thru basses as well.

I always wanted a Fender Custom Shop bass, I recently found their quote sheet from the website... and it is never going to happen, the amount it would cost me I would never take it out of my house, and then what is point of owning it.

For a price, they'd do just about anything.

When I was a young lad, I wanted a carved top, neckthrough strat with a Floyd Rose. Sure it was a little decked out, but I didn't think it was $8k decked out in mid 90's $. More than a decade later, this guitar is less than $4k from most luthiers (without a middle man).

My luthier said he and his partner can build one for around $1500 or $2000. Might have to go that route. Especially when he look at how big my hands are on the neck of my stingray he said would specialize the spacing to make it comfortable for my hands. (Whatever that means but it sounds great).

I'm looking at the pictures you guys put up of the bongo's........ughhh...I can't get into the body of the bass. No offense to you bongo owners....it's just not me. Well, right now it's not me. Maybe when I test one out I'll see. If I like it then I'll get a used one...if no used ones are for sale then it's off to the luthier.

Can a brothah get a six string Stingray? Absolutely not, and how dare you even ask...

That's basically the response you'll get from ol' Sterling Ball himself, and his mindless army of fanboi followers. I've seen those guys insult so many bass players for simply wanting their basses in a configuration that better suits them. Seriously, don't even pose the question, or you might end up like me, a former MM fan turned MM hater. You won't catch me dead playing anything with the Ball name on it, because I just can't support an arrogant s.o.b. who comes out and personally disses his fans for asking for something he doesn't make. Spend your money with someone who cares, as a few others have mentioned, a custom luthier. /rant

This. Having an opinion is one thing, calling your loyal customers names and blaming them for making you mad for asking simple questions or a new product request is being an _____.

Guess there's not a lot of Mr Ball love on this thread, so I'll pile on with my PRE Ernie Ball 1978 Stingray and MM HD150 Amp - which sound better than any newer Ernie Ball MM stingray I've owned or played...

Spoken like a true EB fanboy.

I admit to liking their basses, but there again so does quite a proportion of the bass playing population - not sure what you're driving at really :hmm:

Trying to find 125 guys in the market for a new 5 string in a 2 week window is pretty stiff. TB had a solid number of people ready to go, but I already said that the number and timeline was set up to fail.

It was offered as a 4 week window..........the market had supposedly identified itself through a Talkbass thread running for a while - 4 or so genuine people came along and ordered (not sure they were all even off TB) I seem to recall they were extremely disappointed - indeed p***ed off totally that the other hordes of promised buyers had evaporated into the ether apparently unable or unwilling to go ahead - I don't see how you can conclude that that's a company setting something up to fail. It failed because sufficient people didn't want to buy it at the time - the window for other special runs is often 4 weeks.

Unfortunately, like it or not, Musicman don't generally make bespoke one offs - you have to go to a specialist maker for that - tell us what you spent/bought - it would be interesting.

aasti3000 - you should try a Bongo - they feel great to play - excellent shape - I'm really a Stingray guy but this is always very noticeable when I play my Bongo.

Great Musicman pictures - keep em coming!

I think what he was saying is they gave such a small window that more than likely, that wasn't enough time for people to save up to get the bass they were offering. I completely understand that. The majority of people don't have $1500-$2000 just sitting there ready to get a bass. Like he said, people have bills, family, and a life to financially maintain. Honestly, 30 day window (if that is the case) is way to small for the AVERAGE person to save up and place an order. The only reason I got my Stingray is because I sold A LOT of my DJ gear. If I had to save for it? It would probably take 6 months since I also have to feed and clothes 4 kids, bills, etc. I agree with the other guy. No disrespect....but most people aren't "Ballers" like that.

I was part of that whole unpleasant ordeal, and want to clarify a few things. The bass was offered with a limited ordering window, in one color/fretboard option, at full MSRP, which was over 2k as I recall, and a buyer had to come up with half the money up front only to wait half a year or so for it to be built. No way this was ever going to work, and it was certainly not a fair gauge of the market. If EBMM was only concerned about maximizing sales and profit, they would not have offered the Big Al bass. I'll bet they would sell two 19mm SR5s for every Big Al they have sold -- probably a lot more. BTW, check my profile, I love MM basses!

Basicslly if you're caught mentioning that you like anything by EBMM youre considered a mindless fanboy and are thought to lick Sterling Ball's feet on a daily basis.

Hey!! That's the same bass I have...NICE! Different fingerboard..but that's it. ??? What amp is that?

Genz Benz Streamliner 900. It was the night I bought it and I couldn't wait to test it out, but I was sick as a dog and didn't want to go down into the practice space, so I set it up in the kitchen with headphones and a glass of whatever.

Speaking of dogs:

Here's my other EBMM, a fretless Sterling:
