Definitely pawn shop (jewelry in display case, I think). In any case, neither a guitar/music shop or a pawn shop would be guaranteed to value it correctly, especially since it seems to be partly stumping the collective wisdom here. And a pawn shop could very very much undervalue it - though you know they tend to make pricing mistakes in the other direction.

Actually the nut looks like it could be 60’s Gibson. Too bad they put those huge machine heads on it.

I'm not against the string-through design, it's just that upon quick glance, the spacing on these seems off. The back of the bass looks better than the front and inspires more confidence that this isn't a hack job.
looks like someone's project to me. If you really, really want it, I'd urge you to bargain with the seller for a better price. In my opinion, it has less value than a current Epi EB-0 which it resembles. No photos of the neck joint so hard to see if that neck is a real Gibby.

It's gotta be a real Gibson ... the headstock is cracked in three places.
I don’t think Gibson SG or early EBs had string through bodys. I’d pass.
I agree that it could be an EB4L pickup. I played one exclusively for a few years in the late 90’s.

The bass probably self-identifies as a EB-LGTQ and who are we to judge how it ended up this way?
At the end of the day it's an instrument for making music. The more important question is whether it feels good in the hands and good to the ears? If so, pick it up, pay your money, and rock on!

Aye, I'm anxiously awaiting the day when the headstock on my Explorer breaks again.
If it speaks to you, you test it, like the sound/feel and there is nothing major wrong with it....why not! I own a few oddballs that are really fun players. If it doesn't have any of that appeal don't buy it to collect.
I have an Epiphone EB-0 that I added a Lace bassbucker and Hipshot bridge to plus a Tone Monster preamp.I love it's sound and playability.With the mods it set me back around $425.On second look though the headstock and tuners looks janky and the crack behind the neck could be fatal,so I'd say be careful.I wouldn't buy it unless I could see it in person.
