I haven't "reacted" to them. I haven't said a thing about it to them. I don't at all see how I was trying to "pick a fight" with them. Oooooobviously, you missed the whole point of this.

Apparently, I misunderstood your "go all Rambo on them" comment.

And for the record, I said nothing about how you reacted to them, just about how you reacted in this situation.

After reading everything here, and responding, I'm kinda starting to think that they were just trying to push me out.

That certainly could be the case.
And it is too bad if they are being that way about it.
Maybe you're better off without them.

I never know when rehearsals are since they won't get back to me. Ever. I'm assuming I'm out since I agreed to let them bring in a new bassist to replace me, but I was told I'd be the vocalist, but now with the whole "tryouts" thing, it makes me think they're just trying to find someone to come in on vocals to get me out. I'm a HUGE pessimist, so it could just be me. That's why I came here hoping someone could debunk what I'm feeling or whatever.

For your own peace of mind, you need closure.. Am I in, or not!
Text the BL and ask the question... at least you'll know and can move on - with them or elsewhere.

It's clear that he is out. They already are not communicating with him. Why would the BL return a text now? The BL is obviously being immature about the whole thing. The OP has an opportunity to be the adult here.
I suggest he should text them and tell them he has joined another band, or is starting his own band, thank them for the time that he played with them and wish them well. You know, Rambo takin' the high road.

I'm not a great musician but it fills me with a very special feeling of fullfillment when I'm able to sing while playing bass.
These guys aren't interested in playing music with you, they're on the lookout for the best singer for their project. Not knowing when the rehearsals are equals not being in the band. Period.
Now turn the tables and learn your craft both as a singer and bassist. You'll get better at both and when you feel ready, you can turn the tables and start your own band.
I can only think of great bands where the bassist is the lead singer.

It's not that I CAN'T play bass and sing, I just don't like to. I sang and plaid bass in my last band. As awesome as it would be to start my own band, I live in a crappy little town in West Virginia. Dedicated musicians are few and far between.

So if I got this straight...

You weren't in the band at first
Then you got hired as bassist.
Then you got promoted to singer.
Then you got promoted straight out of the band?

And you get to keep the bass as a consolation prize?

This is a win/win for you alone!

They spared you from being in their crappy BS band
AND you have discovered your destiny as a bassist.

It's awesome to have a new bass, but the fact that I spent money on a new bass SPECIFICALLY for this band, kinda tweaks me.

They replaced you as bass player, moved you to singer, are auditioning singers and won't return your call and you're wonder what is going on????

Time to get another band. They seem the kind that one day will talk behind your back about replacing you and they will just send you an email when they have a new guy.

Alright. So, a band contacted me to play bass for them, and we have had a few good practices. Now, some of you know that I'm not much of an instrumentalist. I guess you could say I'm a beginner bassist. Well, the vocalist of the band quit recently and they offered me the vocalist spot. That's awesome because I'm a vocalist, rather than an instrumentalist. The problem here is, once they announced Corey, the vocalist, was departing the band, they also added that they will be having tryouts for vocals. Obviously that infuriated me since I just bought a new bass to play with them, and they asked if they could bring in a better bassist since I was moving to vocals. That's fine and all. I don't like playing bass and singing. What really stretched my butthole however, was the fact that they promised me the position, but then said advertised tryouts. Now, I'm decently friendly with these guys(we've played several shows together when I was in a separate band), so I don't really want crap all over them and go off. What do I do?

Am I wrong for being mad?

The first thing to do is be professional. I've been fired from several bands over the course of my "career". It happens. Move on. They're just not that into you but are too immature to say it. It's plain by their behavior. Practice your craft, hone your skills, prepare for your next musical project, whatever that may be. Take lessons, take classes, learn to read musical notation, learn chords and scales, etc. These will go a long way in opening up many opportunities for you in many different musical directions. I get lots of gigs just because I can read music and the Nashville Number System. It's a big wide musical world out there beyond your sleepy West Virginia town.

I have always been a singing bass player. I have always been able to get a gig. Almost every band that ever fired me called me back to work with them. I really don't mean to toot my own horn but if you are mature, professional, know your stuff, communicate well, don't cause drama, your worth and talent will eventually be recognized. I am certainly not the best player or singer but I bring value to the ensemble, I show up on time, I know my parts, my gear is in good shape, etc. The right people will notice if you make yourself marketable and useful. I wish you the best of luck going forward.

It's awesome to have a new bass, but the fact that I spent money on a new bass SPECIFICALLY for this band, kinda tweaks me.

Negative things happen to us every single day that we arent even aware of. They don't bother us because we don't know about them. But they still happen and occasionally we only find about them way later.

You can choose to focus on the negative things you are aware of and let them upset or depress you.

Alternatively you can ask yourself what is the upside or what opportunity does this negative thing present me?

One. These dudes are gutless and afraid to be direct and communicate their thoughts. People like that are seldom willing to take the risks necessary to sieze opportunities for success. They would be a waste of your time.

Though you probably wouldnt have bought the bass knowing how things turned out, you cant beat yourself up for not being able to predict the future or read their minds. Thats a ludicrous expectation of yourself (if you are doing that)

And though you might have chosen to spend the money on something else thats not the way things unfolded, but the bass is still something of value that you have now.

Embrace that bass and double down on it as if you meant to buy it for yourself. Become a better bassist and increase your value as a musician. New opportunities will come eventually. And when they do you will have experience in lessons learned from dealing with this band. And you will have better musical skills as well.

Leave those dudes in the dust and don't look back. Success is always the sweetest revenge.

A band is a relationship. Like any other kind of relationship, communication is important. Communication you are getting is verbally mushy, but it reads pretty clear (based on your posts). Move on. If they can't be clear and honest, you don't need nor want them.
