Can I use a bass amp in a keyboard

I need your input, recently my wike asked to buy a piano so my kids can start to learn music, I think that the best option is buy a keyboard. My question is: Can I use a bass amp in the keyboard, I am asking thise because is a very good excuse to buy a new amp so I can use it either with the KB or my bass, if so , can you recomend me one that works good with both instruments? The KB will be play it only at my house so I do not really need a monster amp, currently I have an ampeg BA115 for my practice, but a new will be more than welcome.

For kids wanting to learn piano, the best kind already have speakers built in. Keeps you from spending too much money in case the kids decide to quit in a month. You can probably find one on craigslist for under $100, and you can sell it again for the same price when you need to upgrade.

To answer your question... If the keyboard is just for learning/practice, any full range bass amp will work and probably sound decent. I've tried it before, but I've got a practice amp that is easier to plug in to. Also, any decent sized keyboard amp will work ok as a bass practice amp.

:p Amen on the keyboard with built in speakers. Bass amps work great with keyboard. If keyboard usage is just for the kids, no concerns whatsoever. If you want to use the keyboard for more than "just the kids", consider getting one with onboard reverb since most bass amps don't. My band uses a middle of the road Casio run through a Fender BXR 300 bass amp that makes the keyboard sound really good.

Basically the keyboard will be for my wife and kids, I was thinking to get a mid-range keyboard, about 300-450 usd, so I can use some features as drums for my practice too.

Thanks for your comments now I have a clear idea what to looking for.

Selfishly, I would have to agree on the separate amp... just because it would be an excuse to get another amp.

However, I recently purchased a Yamaha E313 keyboard for the boy, he's 10. Built-in speakers sound good and some good features for beginners (like staff display of notes being played, etc.). I'm sure many other mfgrs. have similar features too and I didn't do an exhaustive research. But my 2 cents says you probably can't go wrong with it for the price. You can also run an amp out of the headphone jack if you want.

I don't have to worry about him screwing up an amp or keys by plugging something in wrong or shorting somemthing out. Or... cranking it up too loud like his dad!

Finally, to address your question, maybe look for a bass combo that also has a tweeter - it will help bring out the full sound of some of the samples.
