Can metal grills be problematic?

As opposed to cloth grills. I just got a gk 412 neo and its my first metal grilled cab. I never had rattling issues with cloths on my previous cabs and gk 412 sounds great now. But could it develop rattling because of temp changes?

It could try tightening the screws? also check if the washers to prevent rattle are missing or other issues.

Well, like I said, I have no issues at all for now. But just wondering if issues might show up in the future. It's all nice and tight now.

I only had one cab with a metal grill (Hughes & Kettner something) and it was my only cab that ever rattled at high volume, couldnt do anything about it either, ended up selling it...

Hi,

been using SWR 4 x 10s for years and no rattles...just be careful if you have rubber standoffs..you don't overtighten em and pull em to close to the speakers...you can pop some speakers that way...learned the hard way lol

Funny you should mention this...

I put a metal grill on my recent 2x12 fEARful cab and find it rattles.
I have begun shopping for grill cloth for it.

I've been using a Cerwin Vega cabinet with a 15' JBL in it for the last 10 years- no problems at all.

I've only had one cab that wasn't a metal grill. I've never had a problem with them.

I don't have any problems with my metal grilled cabinet, but if I did, I would put some rubber grommets between the grill and the cab. Cheap and easy.

got a genz benz 410 and a an ashdown 410, both have metal grills +- 4-5 years no rattle issues so far.

No rattles on my Markbass stuff, Trace Elliot combo, SWR combo, and Fender combos. But if they do, as said above, rubber grommets will fix it. Or just tighten the screws.

I have a MarkBass setup with metal grills and they have 3/4" rubber feet in-between the cab and it.

If it starts rattling just go to the hardware store and grab some 1/4" rubber washers. It shouldn't add too much space to it.

Metal grilles have been used successfully in pro-sound for decades. As is the case with many things if done right you won't have a problem. If you have a problem it wasn't done right.

No.

I've pretty much only played Mesa cabs with some few exceptions over the last 12 years and never had any issues with the Diesel or Powerhouse designs and their metal grilles.
