can someone "dumb down" this song for me?

well i got a bulk of the song figured out it was just i couldnt nail the touugh parts, thats where skitch came it. you are right though that song has one sexy bassline:smug:

Here's the news, the recording is set to Monday due to the Media Suite being used today (I'm recording it at the place I teach), so I'll try and upload the same day. In other news it's taken me 4 hours of listening, analysis and playing to 90% nail everything in the track, I can see the parts you would have a problem placing, the high fills were trickyish to pick out and time exactly, but they are done, as are the rest of the fills in the track ;)

Latest on this, By the looks It's not going to not be possible to use the facilities at my place of work to record this unfortunately (I was hoping for better quality), there are Media student assessments running, which has meant my prearranged little ask has had to take a back seat.

However, I have ordered a HD Camcorder and some kit in order to make my own simplified tuition/other uploads (which is something I wish to do a lot more of anyway), delivery is in around 6 days. As soon as I get to grips with it (which shouldn't take long, it's Youtube ready), I'll get the track up for you.

Speaking of which I've put another 2 hours of analysis/playing time into the track, I'm not surprised you found this tricky, it's quite some little opus as far as basslines go and it's been an education working and memorizing this one. A bit like like Jamersons non-repetitive style with Brian Wilsons composition sensibilities and Macca's pop/rock feel thrown into one. I never really listened in close to the line on this previously, but I certainly know it now ; )

Again sorry about the delay fella, (I have been told the Media Suite at my place of work may be available Thursday, but after being knocked back twice, I'm not putting too much store in this, if possible I might be able to bring this forward a bit, we'll see) otherwise I'll wait for my kit to be delivered and upload asap.

In the meantime, if you need any of the fretting/patterns/fingerings for particular run's, partials of the original track, put the time frame by the second and I'll clarify them for you as best I can. Later gator, Steve.

O.K. The vid is in the bag, but I'm having a problem uploading from this computer for some reason? It accepted a little test upload yesterday but the software is a bit of a problem now, I've tried to upload 5 times but to no avail :(

I'll endeavour to persevere tomorrow to get this up, hang in there buddy ; )

The test vid I did yesterday, not really for public view but hey, this is the kind of angle I'm looking at audio/visual, I've changed everything around since this little rough tester ; ) TBC........



P.S, I've played yours on a semi acoustic Yamaha BEX with flats, more Mr McCartney sound, not the SBV550 in that vid, and the lighting and shot angle/spare room background are much better, I'm learning as I go along, thanks for your patience; )

Revisiting this topic, I'd just like to say there's nothing wrong with dumbing something down. I do it all the time in "survival situations" (e.g. sight reading in a big band).

If you have to play the song next week at a gig, that's one thing. But if you're doing it for your own edification AND you have the tab and the recording, dumbing something down becomes detrimental to your development as a bass player. That's what the woodshed is for.

Dumbing something down (i.e. simplifying a bass line) is an art unto itself. It requires recognizing the simplest, necessary elements of a given bass line and an understanding of your own capabilities/limitations. You develop those skills from paying your dues.

I'm not familiar with the song so I don't know if the tab is correct. The site has a feature that will slow it down to about half time and it scrolls along with the song. You have to have a subscription to it, but I think its only 7.99 a month.
I used this to learn alot of the material for the cover band I joined recently.

Check out this site. It has the tab in "guitar pro" type format where you can listen and follow along to the midi type track. Just change the instrument from guitar to bass.

It might not have all the fills note for note, but it's damn close and I doubt anyone would notice (apart from Skitch :P ).

I would spend alot of time with the difficult parts, playing them in half-time, and just keep looping them by yourself or to a metronome till they feel natural. Then slowly work your way up to full speed without becoming messy or sloppy with the fill.

O.K Bluesman I've finally managed to get this to upload after some effort, software problem, fixed now hopefully. Hope you enjoy, I took a little liberty at the end of the track and rocked out a little. If you have questions about the hand positioning, fretting, frets etc, put up the time frame and I'll take a look ; )

Thank you for your words Sir, I appreciate that. I found it was quite a tricky piece to memorize all in all, but a nice insight into that line, worth the work to pick it apart.
