Can Someone Name An Inexpensive, Tiny Combo (That Doesn't Completely Suck)?

+1!! I have one for Guitar that I use for bass. For a small little combo, I found nothing that could even come close in sound....

Man, even at the "blowout" price of $500, seems like a lot to pay for a 250W 110 combo, and the MSRP of $1400 just seems absolutely insane for what this amp seems capable of.

Also, the 50.5 pound weight seems crazy to me. Just too heavy for the form factor and intended purpose of this amp IMHO. I'd much rather save 10 pounds, add more power, spend a little more money, and get an Eden 110 combo.

I also have a bit of a personal issue with calling this amp a 500W amp. IMHO, a vendor that has to quote specs based on a 2 ohm load is pushin' my sense of realism and practicality. To me, this is a 250W head at best.

It'll do 500w! It was basically designed to be used with Yamaha BBT cabs. I have 2 of the 4ohm 1x10 cabs and the head! Believe me, it'll do 500w into 2ohms!

I DO believe/understand it'll do 2 ohms... lotsa' amps can do 2 ohms tho. Thing is, most amps don't operate best at 2 ohms, even tho their output power does go up, which makes it look good "on paper". In practice tho, it's usually best to run those amps at 4 ohms.

Now if this amp is designed to run at 2 ohms, which maybe it was, then maybe its specs don't suffer at that rating like a lot of heads do. However, then you also have the logistical problem of having to have cabs just for this head... most folks don't use 4 ohm cabs. Most use 8 (like me) because most heads are designed to run 4 ohms total. This means I'd either be running this head at 8 ohms, where they don't even rate it, but I assume puts it at probably about 150W max, or 4 ohms, or buy new cabs just to use with this head (not a practical option for me).

In short, if I were to get this head, it'd be giving me 250W max, because I'm not willing to buy all new cabs just for one head, that also could only really even be used with that head.

The features that attract me to this head are the digital features. It'd never be gig worthy for me in my main band except as a preamp, but for smaller stuff, where 125-250 would be enough, if the tone was "there", it's got some great convenience features.

Very interesting. Well, that pretty much makes up my mind. I'll hopefully be pulling the trigger on one of these in the next few days.

Didn't read the whole thread yet, but thought I'd offer some observations:

The RAD Bass amp of Fender's got a really good review in Bass Player back in the early/mid 90s (somewhere in there), and many, like Mr. Bowlus, really liked it. However, with all the model change turmoil at Fender through that time, it became the BXR 25, not the Bassman 25 (and had other BXR brandmates).

The late 90s Bassman series resurrection (25, 60?, 100, and 200, all with very traditional Fender styling) were also very nice sounding amps, and someone did mention the 25 in this thread. I played through a 100 once in GC and was impressed with the sound. The 100 and 200 models were relatively shallow in depth, and had the "Room Balance" and some sort of mid-shift control, with familiar numbered Fender knobs. I was sorry to see the Bassman line changed into the current series (style-wise, at least), with the smaller models having the kick-back cab style, and the amp portion styled like the 800 Pro, but I have heard they are all quite good sounding, with the Bassman 100 (10") and 150 (12") being standouts, being around $350 and up generally. Mexican made, I think, but quite a step above the Indonesian made Rumble series. I'd recommend jumping on those late '90s models when available.
