Can someone tell me what I did wrong????

ok I have a SVT2 non pro and 8-10 cab....hooked up with 1/4....I got a micro amp yesterday with one speakon....so I hooked the speakon to the back of the 8-10 ampeg cab too....now I was just playing with the micro with the SVT off....and it started smoking!!! was it trying to feed back into the SVT like a daisy chain cab? I used to do this with my GK cabs and my mesa and mbfusion and never had this problem! having both amps hooked up to the cab at the same time but never turning both on at the same time.

So I unpluged the speakon and put the SVT on it went on I let the tubes warm up for a bit and turned the standby on and it worked fine...then made a pop! but then still works fine....what was that frying?

With your Mesa and GK, you may've just got lucky and those amps just happened to have relays or breakers on the speaker outs as a sort of built in protection.

Never connect more than one amp to a cab.

What you're doing is sending the speaker signal from one amp up the backend of the other. Much like spraying two firehoses at each other, something's gotta give and it ain't gonna be pretty.

There is a way to plug into an 810 where you are dividing it into two separate 410 8 ohm cabs. It sounds like this is what you were unsuccessfully trying to do.

I had it like this all day yesterday too and this didnt happen just when I turned up the juice a tad today for a second! I unplugged it out of the cab now obviolusly! but both amps are still working! but I can still smell the smoke in the SVT.....should i take it and get it checked out? it seems to be working ok now.

Doesn't matter. You're still trying to feed power back at it by way of it being connected via the cable, as the inputs of the cab are also "outputs" ...It's like daisychaining cabs, but amps don't like it like speakers do.. That smoke was the heat / byproduct of that load dumping to a component in the amp, most likely the OT / Power stage. No bueno.

Take both your amps in and have them looked at.
Never hook two amps up to one cab at the same time. Ever.

If you have the means and the time, I'd have it checked out. I'm just saying I wouldn't *risk* a gig on it, just in case.

I believe that's the AV model, or some specific model of 810 anyway, Jimmy would know.

It's not the standard 810e though.

With the amp turned off, the SVT output transformer presents itself as a low impedance inductor in parallel with the speakers on the mini. The mini sees a load that is much lower than it can contend with. The manual for your micro amp says not to connect it to a load that is less than typically 4 ohms. Some amps can handle 2 ohms. The output transistors on you mini will burn up because of too much current.

It might be fine but to be safe, confess your sins to an amp tech and have them check out both amps. You may have to pay some penance for cooking your output transformer.

Get it serviced before using it again or your (probably) expensive repair is going to turn into a VERY expensive repair/colossal, spectacular failure that will total your amp.

But the internal wiring of that amp was still connected to the speaker, whether it was turned on or not.

Perhaps beans would know what exactly would happen running a speaker signal backwatds through the output transformer, power tubes, etc., I just know not to do it.

I already turned them both on both are working ok....except the tube amp made a pop when I took it out of standby...but then worked ok.
