Can this work for a P.A. setup?

I'm a bass player and have a couple of 4x10 cabinets laying around. Would it be possible to hook these up to a P.A. via a crossover and use them as subswoofers? They are both 8 ohms and 400 watts.

You may be able to get away with it for awhile if you don't inadvertantly destroy them in the process. But, it's not likely to sound as good, or get as loud, as a bona fide sub.

It's possible, but it doesn't work very well... I've tried it. Subs are specially designed to project only the lowest frequencies and so are pretty specialized. When you feed that content to a full range box it just sounds anemic, or mine did, anyway, like it was mostly missing. It works great for full-range bass, though!

4x10s are better as midrange speakers. For a Sub you need 15s or 18s.

Bass guitar cabs are not very good at lower frequencies.
Not a good idea.
