Can you also play guitar?

6 string guitar , 12 string guitar and bass. Good enough to play all three in bands and have made money on all of them. Been playing nothing but bass in bands for the last 12 or so years so I've gotten a bit rusty on the guitars. Still pick up the 12 string from time to time. At one time , it was my best instrument. Seahag (my lovely wife) and I take a vacation to Ocean City Md. during the summers. I take the 12 string and make enough busking on the Boardwalk to pay for the drinks and a couple of dinners for the week.

I learned guitar and bass at the same time. I learned some Piano about ten years ago. I took up classical guitar for a couple years as well.. if there is anything I can say about learning classical guitar is that the technique greatly improves playing bass... I still have a ways to go on keyboards, but I know enough to do my own studio work assertively and confidently.

I did start on bass, and when I started on the guitar, it took a while to catch on to it, but I find if I practice lots and then just put the instruments away for a couple weeks, I feel more in command of the instrument..

Cool--I started on piano when I was young--I wanted to play guitar as long as I can remember--but I took a detour through piano for three years, then guitar, then bass after about 2 1/2 years of guitar (But I kept playing guitar)
I started guitar with learning classical--which I agree helped with bass.
I also took a couple of years of classical guitar lessons as an adult.
Just over 2 years ago I started fretless bass & just over a year ago I aded mandolin.

So I've had formal lessons on piano (Still know the notes & stuff--but would only be able to play basic stuff), guitar & bass (Both of those I still play)
Mandolin has been informal learning.

I should probably mention that (other than some woodwind instruments), I originally started off playing classical guitar. I've never had lessons but through the wonderful thing known as the Internet and generally dabbling myself I managed to form a sort of fingerstyle playing. After about a year, I picked up my first bass and started to play that. I originally started with a pick but I've moved onto playing with fingers. Only recently have I tried pick again and now I'd say I play 80% fingerstyle and 20% pick. I bought my first electric guitar a few weeks ago, and that's what's really got me into using a pick for guitar as well. I used to play with just fingers but I wasn't good enough to play without it sounding muddy on an electric guitar.

Overall, been playing guitar from the age of 12 (4 years) and bass from 13 (3 years). Bass is definitely my main instrument however.

Bass is my first love but I have gotten pretty good at guitar.

I play guitar exactly how you'd expect from a bassist who gave up the guitar ~20 years ago. Quite badly.

Started on guitar way back in 1972, then switched to bass in 2007. Nowadays I don't play guitar nearly as often as I should, but I still remember all the things I learned on guitar. I actually got pretty good at it, but bass is where it's at for me now. Besides, my guitar calluses are pretty much gone now, having been replaced by bass calluses, which are not in the same location on my fingertips.

Heh. The revival of this thread takes me back to rehearsal this Sunday. It was just me (bass/vocals) and the drummer. The lead guitarist was out of town for business, and the rhythm player is getting over pneumonia. All the drummer and I ended up doing was tracking vocals and guitars in his studio. I laid the vocals on stuff we already had recorded, and then we each recorded guitar tracks to a click. We don't need no stinking guitards!!!

I can play pretty well. Started 4 years ago when my brother (drummer/bit of keys) and I started a trio with a singer. We do all the recording in our home studio and I needed to be able to track all types of guitar. I play acoustic, classical and electric, and I'm pretty good at it. Basic chords and rhythm no problem, and I'm working on jazz chops.
