Can you help me out?

Hi,

im new here so please be kind lol

i am asking for a bass for christmas i want to know what sort of bass guitar i should get for a beginner and what sort of prices they are i live in the UK near Cambridgeshire i do play and own a guitar lol

i wanna play Red Hot Chili Peppers style songs Flea is awesome!

so any help on bass guitars that i can jam like flea?

sorry if this is in the wrong section

thanks

my help will be limited, as I am on the other side of the pond, so to speak :)

If you're a flea fan, i would suggest something that's slappable, possibly a jazz bass.

or perhaps even a stingray copy from rondomusic.com

might I suggest an acoustic bass guitar? So that you could practice unplugged, without disturbing the parents :D ?

+1,000,000! on the flea thing! he is my god i swear! my modulus fb4 flea bass is on its way!

but for my first bass
i got a ernieball musicman copy, made by axl.

but whats the bugget? mine cost me about £300 but theres alot of basses for that kinda money that you could get a flea like sound out of.

although a fender jazz is always a good place to get off?, and if you can't afford a fender then there squiers?

Hmmm...I tend not to like starter pack basses. It depends on your budget, but I think the Squier Vintage Modified 70s Jazz bass is a great bass to start on. They should didn't have anything that nice for under $300 when I started playing....

Also, don't get overly hung up on getting a bass that sounds like Flea because Flea has played so many different basses over the years. His tone stays fairly similar because of HOW he plays, moreso than WHAT he plays. He has used Musicman, Spector, Wal, Alembic, Fender and Modulus over the years but he sounds like he does because of his style & technique.

I think a good, inexpensive Jazz bass (like the one I recommended) is a great place for anyone to start.

wow! thanks alot you guys for helping me!

im not sure really want sort of price range my parents are willing to pay obv cant be like £300 mainly because my parents have paid out a lot for me this year :P

Thanks for helping me! I am going to add Tell me baby to my setlist and start playing it live.:bassist:

Hump de Bump, Higher Ground and Tell me Baby... good RHCP tunes IMO. Thx! BTW, learn Higher Ground, it's really easy once you get the slap thing down. Much easier than Tell me Baby IMO.

you are a true fan indeed! he recorded stadium arcadium on his jazz bazz so i would start there or a MM bass copy just looked up a couple and you can get them for around £150 ?

id go for the squier jazz? or get advice from your tutor? wat i did partly on my new bass.
