Can you ID this band or singer?

The entirety of this Facebook thread since 2017 it seems. One of these commenters (via YouTube) seems to be really invested.

"With some help, I tracked down the most likely DJ: Inessa Anderson, who ran the new music show. I asked her, and she said she probably played it, but she doesn't remember the song at all.

I then asked her if they ever played British bands or if they specifically played vinyls at KXYQ, but she left me on read."

I promise you, it is nobody you have ever heard of, or else the lyrics would be searchable. It's a local band. I'd bet money on it.

I agree that’s the most logical explanation. Still fun to try and unravel a bit of music history. Someone in the greater Portland area or Pacific Northwest knows who it is.

I believe I have solved the puzzle. The song was performed by an unknown Portland band that existed for six months and then faded into oblivion. They did their best to imitate as many British bands as they could in their one recorded demo. The bass player now features in a Dad band in Vancouver, Washington and often remembers what could have been.

I'm also going to vote "local band that never achieved national or international notoriety" but I'll pass it along to some other local music nerds.

Those are my thoughts.

Jest cuz a band was played on a radio station doesn't mean they were ever well known.

Inessa responded on the other board I referenced:

Somebody reached out to me earlier today. I can’t tell who it is. Sounds sort of like Morrissey to me. It won’t Shazam either. I am stumped!”

Followed by another comment:

Hi! I’m the one who posted the comment you quoted. Inessa actually replied on this thread above– she also told me that bands played were often local or or global.

A friend of mine asked Mistina from The Prids if a band like the one who made this song even existed in Portland back then, to which she said it was impossible– she’d have known the band. Unless they were incredibly obscure, even to the local acts, and had a fake accent, I think we can say with some degree of confidence that the band in question is not from Portland. This explains why none of the local acts seem to recognize the song and why the singer sounds… not American.”

It was my band, and yes, we were unknown. Many were correct that we played about a year, maybe two then moved on. I had no idea anybody was looking for this song. I only found out when I posted a video I made to youtube

Wow! This is really cool, thanks for sharing. I've really liked this song for some time now so it's great to finally have a name and band to attach it to.
