Cancer Sucks

I'm so sorry. I lost my wife to cancer in August. The doctor called her on a Monday morning in late-July after an MRI the previous Friday for back pain. "You have bone cancer", he told her. Turned out that the bone cancer was pervasive throughout her body; she also had lung cancer and a tumor on her brain. She passed away in home hospice 3 and a half weeks after the doctor called her with the news. Brutal. She was in so much pain, even dosed up with the morphine.

So my heart breaks for your sister, you, and the rest of your loved ones...

Teresa Jean ("Jelly Bean") Holder Martinson, 12/18/1962 - 10/18/2022. RIP little sis, you fought the good fight, time to rest. :crying:
I don't wanna make this about me. But I'll share some experience with this. My sister fell asleep in her dorm room at college on the night of March 20th 1994 and never woke up. Two autopsies turned up zero.

Fast forward a couple of weeks. I went into my parents' kitchen to find my mother crying. I asked if she wanted to talk.

Her - "I'm scared."
Me - "Of what, mama?"
Her - "I'm not scared of remembering. I'm scared of forgetting. I'm scared to death that there will come a day that passes and we don't mention her name."

I've never been so kicked in the gut in my life. Since then, I have made it a point to bring up her name every day. Even people who don't know me will get it jammed into conversations. "My sister Aimee used to...."

Remember. Tell stories. Laugh when you get to that point. Hang up pictures and leave them up. There will come a time when remembering will bring smiles rather than tears. It's not now, for sure. But that day WILL come.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Praying for healing and comfort for you and your family. I know it hurts bad. A serious FU to cancer but your sister is not in pain anymore, whatever consolation that might bring. I believe she's in a better place, just like everyone else who fights the courageous battle against this horrible disease and passes on. Stay strong, my friend.
