Cant decide on my bass

ok I have a crappy squier p bass
i need an upgrade
what bass should i get
i am looking for a bass with the best possible sound with a good range of tones less than 500$ and it can be used

my choices already:Peavey Cirrus BXP 4 string, Ibanez SR500/505, Shecter Stiletto C-4, or a Washburn Bantam Series 4 string

ill try and beat everyone else to this one...

go to a store and try as many as you can. focus on feel, then sound, then less important things like weight, etc...

and be flexible. if the instrument is more than you have now, dont settle for something thats not right for you. wait until you have the money for an instument that truly fints YOU.

not much else to it than that...i could list "good" basses for days...theres a lot of good basses out there. you have to be the one to decide which of them is YOUR good bass.

well i tried out the washburn and the ibanez i like the ibanez better, but i didnt try out theother two and the both werent and the stores i went to, only online.

I am preferably looking for something that has good tone and playability, i dont mind how heavy it is (well not a tank) or how it looks

i bought some d'addario semi-flatwounds, still sounds like crap
it is the kind u get for 50$ in the box with an amp (i got mine 1 year used)

what do you mean those basses arent much better, i tried 2 of them out, and they were sooo much better?

What kind of music do you like? Semi-flats? Is that the only kind of strings you have tried? String type/gauge makes a HUGE difference in tone. Try some roundwounds maybe.
You are thinking about going from a beginners bass to a intermediate players bass (IMHO) and we have all done that to great expense. What I am suggesting is play the crap out of the Squire (build your chops) until you can afford your dream bass and thus avoid GASing for a better one in a few weeks.

I don't think the basses you mentioned are much of an upgrade from the Squire.

My advice: buy some new strings and a pro. set-up for the Squire and save up for your dream bass.

Your both right, those basses are SO much better and are easily gig worthy, you can definitely get a good tone out of them, but you could save up longer and get a very nice bass.

Hell I just got my BTB 450 which I love to death, but still in the next few years I want a Ric. Then again a BTB 450 is a fairly respectable bass, build quality & feel is amazing.

i like most styles
but mostly funk rock and metal
not much blues or country
and when i went to the guitar shop, i was going to buy chromes, but the manager recommended i shouldn't(he was losing money too so thats a pretty good indicator)
he said they are a little too dark

also i had ernie ball slinkies, but they as well as my semi-flatwound gave me bad tone
Ya, that is a good suggestion about working my chops up, and i have another month before i would get the bass(its a present, i just have to choose which one i want), and funny thing is my chops are pretty good for a beginner, my action was so high for the first month i have been playing, i just changed it yesterday and the strings went down about 1/2" around the
top frets

and peaveyuser, i was looking at the btb series, but i heard the SR500 was really good as well

It is a very good bass, I say go for it. It will definitely satisfy your needs if you like it. Ibanez makes great basses for the price. Personally the SR wasn't for me though, I just didn't like it. Also check out Godin if you can, extremely nice bass.

well, i may as well recommend the peavey millennium BXP. i have the 5 string version, and i could go on for quite a while about how much i like it. it has a thin neck, and it's easy to get really low action with it. the stock pups also sound great & it's not a bad looking bass either.

A friend has a cirrus BXP 5, I have played it a few times and I think that it is a pretty quality axe.
It sounds nice and has a solid feel to it. The attention to detail is really noticeable when put up against my MIM Jazz.

isnt the cirrus BXP better
i heard it was the same as the regular cirrus, just assembled in indonesia

Not exactly, I for one LOVE the millenium BXP, the AC BXP uses the Cirrus (yes the MIA Cirrus) pickups but thats if you want active. To be honest I'd have a hard time deciding between the Millenium and the Cirrus after all the Millenium BXP is the same thing as the regular MIA millenium, just made in Indonesia:D. (FYI there used to be a normal millenium which was hailed for AMAZING bass but Peavey discontinued it:()

Check out the Millenium amazing bass and if you like it better you'll save a few bucks:bassist:
