I bought a Fender Jazz bass in 2009 and can can't tell what kind it is. It's made in USA. Serial number says it was made in 07/08. I remember the sales guy said it was some kind of special edition. It has three knobs but the big nob had a little knob on top of it. I don't remember what it did. Its since fallen off and I can't find a replacement for it. This is why I am trying to figure out what kind of bass it is. Anybody know?

No idea what exact model that is, but that's a concentric pot, with the top knob broken off. Shouldn't be too hard of a fix...
Does it have a battery box? If so, then it's active, probably 2 band.

Have you already tried Fender's serial lookup tool? Usually that can tell you exactly what model you have. Serial Number Lookup
Is the inner shaft still there? If so, you just need the inner knob, that should be easy. Replacing the entire pot is harder, but still DIYable if you're at all handy.
You have an american series jazz bass from the mid '00s with the series/parallel S1 switch (at the top of the neck pickup volume knob).

It might be "junk" but it does give you series/parallel options for the middle pickup which many promote and enjoy.
Is it 9 or 18 volt? If it’s 9 it’s most likely an MIM, if it’s 18 it’s most likely an MIA. There is also no active/passive toggle which could be either COO depending on year of manufacture. I can’t recall off the top of my head, but the MIA Deluxe got an A/P toggle sometime in the 2000s and the MIM deluxe got one a few years later. IDK if the MIM went to 18V when it got the A/P toggle, but It should say on the headstock somewhere what the COO is.
Either way, unless you can find a used top knob your best best is to just buy the set of two for that pot. Fender also sold the stacked pot knobs separately, but they have never been very plentiful. I don’t think it’s anything but the (relatively) small number of active basses sold that usually makes the stacked knob set an order only part for most suppliers. They can get them, but very few stock them.
Last, the stock pre consists of 2 separate part numbers, one is the board with 2 pots mounted to it and a third attached with wire so it can reach it’s hole position. The second part number is for the remaining pot and must be connected to the board. I don’t remember which part number contains the stacked pot, but I do know that none of the knobs come with either part number, but are generally available as a full set. They are easier to find as a full set, which may be why it’s tough to find the stacked set alone.

I'm pretty sure what you have is the S1 switch Jazz.
You can get an S1 switch easily and the top "button" will simply pop in to the top of the neck pickup volume control.
Unless the old switch is damaged it won't require removal - just keep the rest of the switch as a spare.
