Can't make this up ...

Tonight someone requested ... wait for it ... Wipeout! Oh crap, we were all thinking we'd left that behind decades ago. But being the people-pleasers that we are, we do it. The drummer gets it right, and pounds the daylights out his toms. At one point I see a shiny piece of hardware fly by, and after we finish I give to the drummer, saying, "I've seen some hard drumming, but this is the first time I've ever seen a drummer literally beat the nuts off his drums!"

Years ago, I was in a band with a phenomenally talented drummer who could play anything. He had drum solos worked out for different songs so he could always do 1 solo each night and still have some variety.

One of those songs was "Wipeout". His hands and feet were a blur for 4 minutes.

He was so good that the ladies would mob him after every show. Our singer/lead guitar player was used to being adored by fans after shows in his earlier bands and he was a bit jealous that our drummer was getting all the attention from the ladies. :D:bassist:

Ain’t nothing wrong with that, if you have the right crowd, it’ll get ‘em dancing. Just don’t be too serious with the presentation. What if someone had requested........Mustang Sally?

Uh that would be the BL. I won’t sing it, I’m a baritone, but he’s been buggin’ me since a sub drummer did it a couple gigs ago. I think the keys player will try it. Dang, we're supposed to be a freekin’ country band! :)

So change the name and lyrics to suit. "Brush-Hog Sally" has a ring to it.

Or you could make it about a horse.

Well, alrighty then, here you go...

I have never understood the vitriol toward that one song in particular, as opposed to a hundred other warhorse bar band tunes...In The Midnight Hour, anyone? It’s just one of billions and billions of I-IV-V workout songs. Ain’t no different from Teena Neena Nu(or however you want to spell it). If I can go to a blues jam, which I do frequently if I don’t have gigs, and don’t have to play “Sweet Home Chicago”, I call it a good night. The thing is, at some point I do play it, but under a different title:smug:.https://youtu.be/mJemIREXBCc

I was in a band with a bodhran player who could manage the same feat, with one drum and a tipper.

One of the bands I play in, I play mandolin. When I started with them about 10 years ago, imagine my surprise when I kicked in “Copperhead Road” and people jumped up and started line dancing. I had no idea. I thought it was a joke until somebody explained it to me. Kinda ruined that song for me cuz I hate line dancing.

My drummer is the first one that I've begged with to please please please hit harder!

No matter what I cant hear his kick! I have even asked him to mic them! We only practice in his rec room and are not near as loud as other guys I've played with! I'm more used to either competing with a drummer or asking them to back off a bit!

Seriously I'm the one carrying the tempo because the guitar players have the same issue
