Carbon fiber body

It’s been a few years since i inquired and back then none of the dippers i talked to did that. I was trying to get some speakers cabs dipped with a tiger stripe camouflage pattern and it was not a production item at the time so the price for a one off run for the pattern i wanted was more than it cost me to get someone to paint them.
Also, i’ve tried a few CF wraps and have yet to find one that is convincing, but i’ve worked with a lot of CF over the years so maybe i’m just setting the bar too high. I have been thinking about getting a tabletop CNC router big enough to do pick guards and other small flat CF parts but so far i can still farm out what i need for less than i can get set up to do it on my own.

There have been major advancements in materials used in hydro dipping. Also, the dippers are getting better. I had a wing style spoiler done for a car I built and the dipper did the 360 degree dip where no seams were visible. Had a lot of people asking where I got one made of carbon fiber because it looked so real. The same guy was doing gunstocks that looked fantastic.

Years ago, our friend Geoff Gould at Modulus made what was known as the Thousand Ladies Dancing or KLD. Phil Lesh had a headless KLD and there are some floating around. I have never seen one up close, but my eyes are always peeled to snatch one up.

I’m not super familiar with the process, but dipping a wooden body into water (if it is indeed water) seems like a no bueno situation to me (water will get into the wood any way possible, expand, and lift the underlying paint I would think).
