I'm sure that very many of you have already seen this, but I had never seen these videos until tonight and I feel compelled to share them for anyone else who hasn't.

Very cool that you linked these Dave. Carl is one of the most genuine guys you could ever meet. He let's you see just who he is in these videos. Carl is also honest to a fault, something most of todays musicians would mistake for arrogant or self serving.

Anyone wanting to build something original, should watch these videos. Carl takes the time to explain many of the reasons he does things the way he does.

I am still not a fan of the bodystyle, but they play awesomely, and Carl is someone we should have more of in this business, than what we have been left with.

He's a great guy. Delightfully eccentric and super-knowledgeable (and a hell of a jazz guitarist!).

I've been to his shop a bunch of times. While I may never shell out for one of his basses, they really are works of art and they play and sound fantastic.

I think he's sold most of them overseas now, but he used to have several prototypes kicking around his shop that dated back to the 70s. It's amazing how many features showed up later on other builders' basses as "innovations".

Its funny listening to Carl talking about his reasoning for making a neck through style bass... it has nothing to do with all of this sustain stuff that everyone talks about (which he doesn't even buy into), but the simple fact he could not chisel a straight neck pocket line on his set neck so he glued more wood to the bottom of the neck and extended the neck block... Carl is the man, he is not afraid to tell it how it is. "my intention was not a neck through construction, my intention was not sustain, my intention was none of that because I don't know anything about any of that stuff and quite frankly I don't think anyone does. Its just their opinion." I wish Carl was on here to make responses to all of the neck through vs set neck questions, all of the wood vs. tone questions etc.
