I'm not sure how I missed this post. Sorry about that. What a beauty!!! I think you did a fantastic job.
This is the CR (supposedly) Made in Japan I bought a couple of weeks ago. I took it apart, cleaned it up, spray cleaned and lubed the pots to get rid of the scratchiness, then did a setup on it. It sounds and plays really well! Low action, responsive pots with good volume, and tone control with a good range.
When I bought it I noticed screw holes for an ashtray. I searched a bit and found this Fender P-bass one with mounting holes at the correct spacing. It was a nice addition which, I feel, completed the bass.
All in all, I'm happy with this one.
P.S. if you look at the third pic, I'm pointing to a threaded collar on the tuning peg shaft which has a hole on either side. I'm looking for the appropriate tool to tighten it down with (yes, I know I can use channel locks with some padding. I'm curious to see what the actual tool looks like). Does anyone know what the tool is, and where I can find one?

Does anyone have a gold, Carlo Robelli tuner they're wanting to sell?
I just received this Carlo Robelli six string for my collection. Unfortunately, the tuning post for the high C string is broken in half, which the seller neglected to mention.
I can probably find something that fits, but I'd really prefer an authentic CR tuner.
Please let me know if you do.

I found a used (similar patina) Gotoh treble side tuner for $10 on ebay, so I ordered it. The same and layout is extremely similar to the originals on the CR.
That being said, if anyone does have a CR, treble side, gold tuner they want to sell, I'd be interested.

I removed the broken tuner. Printed on the inside face, but not visible till you remove it, is "Jin Ho Korea". I did a search and found a set of six for $30 that look identical. I may just buy those and have the rest as back ups, as I do have several CR basses with gold hardware.
The main reason is, although the Gotoh I ordered last night will likely fit, it's not a perfect match, and it says Gotoh on the back where you can see it, and the rest don't. I'd rather have as close a match as possible.
Overkill for a bass in this price range? Maybe. But, that's how much I like these. I want it to be as original or, at least, uniform as possible.

Picked up this six string recently for next to nothing. It had one broken tuner. I bought six replacements that are almost identical (but, if anyone has one, gold, treble side OE Carlo Robelli tuner, I'd like to buy it).
Disassembled it, cleaned thoroughly, sprayed the pots but one is still scratchy (likely needs replacing, unfortunately), installed the new tuners, installed Aurora gold strings (my favorite strings. I have them on almost all of my basses), adjusted the dual truss rods, adjusted string height at the bridge and nut
, set intonation, and it's a beast!!! It plays really well. The tone out of the active electronics is so good! It has a push/pull which really boosts the signal when pulled.
Overall, I'm super happy with it.

About the same time I bought the six string above, I also found this four string from Guitar Center online. It was listed as passive but I was 99.99% sure it was active with a push/pull. For $150 and a gig bag I couldn't say no.
When I received it I took off the back cover and there was, indeed, a clip and 9v battery. But, the clip was broken. I ordered a replacement, soldered it on, and it came alive! A previous owner even took the time to partially shield the cavity and electronics.
It sounds good! I'm in the process of tearing it down, cleaning it up, and giving it a setup.

Installed some fresh, gold color Aurora strings
(My favorite brand of strings!).
Then, adjusted the truss rod, and string height at the bridge and at the nut. The nut slots needed a touch of filing to get the heights I wanted.
Finally, I set the intonation. Man, I LOVE the bridge on this thing. Beefy, lots of good surface area, stable, and easy to adjust. Also, a larger hole to feed the ball end of the string into next to a smaller hole or locks into, so you can load the strings from the front! First time I'm seeing that. And, it just looks killer!
Now it sounds, feels, and looks great!
One more step to go: clean the potentiometers so they're not crunchy sounding. Stay tuned! (See what I did there?
