Carmageddon

Meh, all it means to me is that I get to listen to music even longer. Only to get to work and listen to even more, due to working at a record store. I suggest if anyone's in sherman oaks ya should stop at second spin (we've got a lot of records that are pretty hard to find, and I swear to god I've only seen like 2 or three people buy something from the jazz section).

A few years ago, they closed the 57 Freeway, which connects Orange County and the San Gabriel Valley, due to fire. I had a Saturday afternoon wedding gig in Claremont, 26 miles away. That's usually a leisurely 30-40 minute drive. Since they closed the 57, I left Anaheim 2.5 hours early and took a detour which made the trip 42 miles.

It took me four hours to drive that 42 miles. I was late to the gig along with half the guests...and the 57 isn't half as busy as the Sepulveda Pass. I'm guessing Carmageddon will suck!

I just watched a piece of this on the news...

$1 BILLION DOLLARS to save 10 minutes of travel time

The reality will be an additional 20 minutes to the travel times when it is all finished since there will be more cars on the road :rollno:

The traffic maps are showing a bit of jammage on the Westside and around Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks and Woodland Hills. Southbound Topanga Canyon is showing some red but strangely, Beverly Glen is all green and yellow. East-west 10 and 101 freeways appear clear.

I'm wondering if all the pre-Carmageddon media blitz affecting people's behavior/plans combined with the pre-planning have kept things mellow.

Just saw a piece on tonight's news about shutting down Highway 405, one of Los Angeles' main highways for repairs and expansion. They said the traffic will be so bad they're calling it "Carmageddon". What say you, SoCal TBers? The end of the world as we know it, or much ado about nothing?
