CARVIN BASS VS PEAVEY BASS.

Hi guys

I was almost ready to buy a carvin bass 6 strings. this one below

But i heard a some good trhings about carvin and a decided to came here and ask you guys about it.

The peavey cirrus 6 strings it's hard to find but i know where to buy it.


The carvin will be around $ 1200

The peavey will be around $ 1900.


What's the best bass and why?

I like a versatile sound not a specific one.


If you know other good bass 6 strings around $1500, please post here and let me know.

I know a excellent bass is Ken smith, Fodera, etc, But i don't have $ 7000 and up to buy it. rsrsrs

Both probably will be nice instruments, but Carvin offers customization to an extent. But you probably won't be dissapointed with either of the two. I could be bit biased towards Carvin because the US prices seems so low compared to what we have to pay here in europe.

I wouldn't worry about that youtube vid. The neck was "warped" in the sense that it was out of adjustment, the guy even said he was able to straighten it. The electronics were fried because both batteries were put in backwards. Both issues are things that wouldn't be an issue for someone who takes care of their instrument. I have a BB76 from '04 (the same generation as the bass in the video) and have had no issues with the electronics or playability, ever.

And the above post is correct. You can get a used Cirrus 6 for around a grand, and a used Carvin 6 for $700ish.

The Carvin will be a better value since you buy direct from them. It also allows for greater customization. They are very well made basses. The only downside I can think of is they typically don't have great resale value if you do decide to get rid of it down the road.

The peavey Cirrus is a better bass. Note the repairmen mentioned warped neck on the carvin. Even though its a 5 peice neck. The single peice carvin necks are just plain weak in my experience and from reviews with many cases of truss rods being maxed out with regular gauge strings 45's. And still unable to get near dead straight neck on the fivers. Id never buy a carvin that wasnt 5 peice neck again. Theyre regular necks are just to weak which for the prices is unaaceptable to me.

Having 2 six string Carvins I can say they are nice basses. That being said, if I had the cash a Cirrus might well replace my Carvin fretted. I do however prefer the Carvin fretless 6 to the Cirrus 6'er fretless I played.

Take a look around...you can find used Carvin 6er for a really good price.

Carvin's are nice but Cirrus are special.

Get the Carvin. I've compared them to a Peavey Cirrus, and the Carvin played smoother, and, in my opinion, sounded much nicer. I've never tried a bass that was more playable than my Carvin. The Cirrus was nice, but the Carvin is still the better choice.

It just depends on how much you want to get out of your carvin bass. The Peavey Cirrus is set, in what pickups you have in there, the wood, and other such features. With the Carvin you can pick whatever you want in there (price permitting). If I had somewhere in the ballpark of $2k to spend, it would be a Carvin...hands down. The materials are on-par with the Peavey and there is soooo much you can do to make the bass suit you better (string spacing, asymmetrical necks, etc).

Looks like the 2 basses will be a good choice, but still unclear what's the best versatile bass to play almost everything.

I have or had basses from both companies, I don't think you'll go wrong with either company. I had a Carvin LB75 that's currently being played in southwest Asia and I still have a Peavey GV, which is a Peavey Fury 5-string with graphite neck. One of the better instrument purchases I have made when it comes to sound.
