CARVIN BASS VS PEAVEY BASS.

the cirrus 6 string is not discontinued. they have been in the process of moving factory's and production will start back up sometime this year. i think they have already been making some 4 strings. this is what my rep (i am no longer an endorser, but still love and use their products) told me about 2 months ago. that being said, peavey is notorious about discontinuing products, but if you look at carvin, they are too. maybe just not quite as bad. both are a good company with great cs.

Ok guys

Thank you very much for your feedback.
I looked a lot of forums and to me looks like Peavey is a little better than Carvin in sound and playability.

I think Peavey will be 52% and Carvin 48%.

But probably i will go with Carvin, because Peavey cirrus 6 strings has be discontinued, and in ten years or less if i need to do a repair it will be hard, and Peavey is an active system only and i had a bass active only and i had a problem with battery on stage and it was really embarrassing.

So maybe i will go with Carvin because they are on market from 60s, and their basses are active/passive push-pull that i prefer since i had trouble with active system only,
and i can build the bass the way i want on their site.

After a lot of reading, A lot of people say Peavey bass is better, But Carvin is a better company.

Probably ( not sure yet ) i will go with Carvin, because of the Active/Passive system.

Appreciate all comments.

If anyone else have more to say just let us know. I will wait a little more to take a better choice.

When i decided i will post here.

Thank's

Don't spend $1900 on a Peavey. That's not even a slam on the brand but Jeez, I bought a brand new Mike Lull for $2200. (Granted that was several years ago)

Carvin gets my vote for the best instruments for the money. Best materials, best craftsmanship, best price, best buy in their price range.

not trying to start an argument, but if you spec a carvin with the same specs as the cirrus, the wood, scale, electronics, blah, blah, blah, they are pretty close in price. i think the carvin would still be a bit cheaper. don't buy a bass because of brand or, i might save a few bucks. buy it because you like it. $1900 for a peavey is fine with me if i like the way it sounds and plays. especially if i like it better than the $2500 bass. which for me, that was the case. granted i think mike lull basses prices are still down to earth. some of those builders went way out of my range a long time ago.

When do you think Peavey will start do cirrus 6 strings again?
Do you know if they will change the system active only to active/passive?

Thank's

i'm not sure when. he just said later this year and that was about 2 months ago. you can call peavey's cs and see if they can tell you anything. i am no longer an endorser as of 2 months ago so i don't talk to him anymore. not sure if they will change to an active/passive system or not. i kinda doubt it. but if they open they're custom shop back up (which would be way cool!) you could get that.

i have had both, carvins and peaveys. i will tell you what i like about the peavey better. to me they seem better built. the carvin to me seem like they built a quality bass the cheapest way they could. the peavey speared no corners with the cirrus. the sound of the peavey to me seems fuller, punchier and tougher than the carvin did. i was always trying to get a sound out of the carvin, where the peavey always sounds great. anyway that is my opinion. i'm sure others have different opinions.

Fair enough. The active/passive switch is nice to have as a failsafe. But FWIW the batteries in both my Carvin and Peavey last for months. And I use the cheapest 9 volts I can find. :D

...and i can build the bass the way i want on their site.

I think Carvin has a clear advantage here. Peavey isn't currently making Cirrus customs and when they did, they were significantly more expensive than both production Cirri and Carvins IIRC.

Both companies have been great to deal with IME. Peavey has been a little better at responding to my emails though.

Probably ( not sure yet ) i will go with Carvin, because of the Active/Passive system.

Both are great basses. But I think between the active/passive, the ability to customize and what you said you want tonally the Carvin would better meet your needs, especially if you're buying a new one.

When do you think Peavey will start do cirrus 6 strings again?
Do you know if they will change the system active only to active/passive?

The Cirrus uses internally active VFL pickups. This means not only does the EQ require power, but the pickups themselves require power to run their built-in preamps. Active/passive is only possible in basses that use the more common combination of passive pickups paired with an active preamp/EQ.

peavey would have to open up there custom shop to get active/passive. you would have to get different p/u's and preamp in it.

the good thing is, which ever one you buy, if you don't like it you can return it. you only have 10 days with carvin though.

Thank's guys for all comments.

Peavey cirrus is a great Bass, but i will go with Carvin bass.

They have a custom shop, and they keep a lot of basses for many years without change, and it will be easy to do a repair in 15 years or more if i need. And the custom shop is very nice make a bass the way you like, with color, pick ups, wood, etc.

For the price and quality, i think it worth.

Custom shop bass 6 string around $ 1,400.00

It is a good deal.

Appreciate all comments and answers .

When i got the bass i will put some pictures here.

Thank's

For what it's worth, I wouldn't even worry about product continuation, being able to repair it in 15 years, etc.

If the bass needs to be repaired in 15 years, and it's beyond your personal abilities to fix, then you are going to take it or send it to a shop. It won't be under warrantee, so that won't be a factor. You won't have to worry about the neck or body construction, otherwise you'd either be buying a whole new bass or gluing your old one back together. And you won't have to worry about getting identical parts -- either they will be available, or something better will be available.

Don't spend $1900 on a Peavey. That's not even a slam on the brand but Jeez, I bought a brand new Mike Lull for $2200. (Granted that was several years ago)

A Lull bass is not a better instrument than a Cirrus, regardless of price. Nor does Lull make a 6-string, last I checked.

The closest thing Peavey offers to a Lull product is the US bolt-on Cirrus. You can buy one brand new from Peavey for $1,100. HALF the price of your Lull bass.

This makes no sense. A Lull is a Fender style bass. Clearly that is not what the OP wants regardless of the price.
