Carvin BX500 would pair nicely with a...

I've been eyeballing the Carvin BX500 for quite a while now but I would most likely need to upgrade my cab in order for that to happen. I recently bought an Ampeg B410HE (in November) but it's only rated at 200w at 8ohms to go with my Ampeg B200H. The Carvin head is 300w RMS at 8 ohms, 500w at 4 ohms and 500w at 2 ohms. I never really learned how ohms and all that works but I can see that it would over power my cab. I don't want to have to deal with blowing it up so I started looking for something with a little bit more power handling room.

Any suggestions? I want to stick with 10's. Four of em most likely but maybe 6.

Maybe I'll just go with the temporary tone fix and get a sansamp and wait for my acoustic head to dump out on me.

What do you guys think?

next question: BRX10.4 or the 10.4 Neo? Is it really worth the $120 price difference? I see it is lighter but what other differences are there really?

Just seen my tax return numbers and started playing around with this idea... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Neither. Cuz an Avatar 153 can be had for the same dough. :D That is, if not springing for a real-deal 15/6.

But of course I'd say that, given my own rig choices. (Carvin amp, Carvin bass, fEARful cab.)

I'm sure the BRX is a good cab, if their amps and basses are any indicator.

The BRX Neo's are going away according to Carvin, citing production costs. They are being replaced with 56 oz ceramics. The weight difference is material with the Neo BRX 10.4 running 73 pounds and the the new ceramic 10.4 running 93-96 pounds. That is hella weight for a 4-10, I don't care if it does peel paint and kill grass at the mere whisper of open E.

I ended up grabbing a brand new BRX Neo 10.4 off of Ebay via Carvin at 569.00. That gives me the 10.2 and the 10.4 depending on volume needs. Carvin may have taken the price up to 699.00 on Ebay to match the website.

While this cabinet is absolutely incredible, the new price point is cause for you to at least take a look at some other options.

Bottom line, grab a BRX Neo quick if you want one because they are going away quickly.

I was reading something about the swap from Neo to ceramic last night...

alright what I've found basically is that the Neo's are lighter (Bonus) but they get hot and stay hot longer (Not a bonus) and they are $120 more (boo)

I'm kinda leaning towards the 10.4 because 20 pounds isn't that much - I say that now but wait til next tour, or the first time I have to load up and down a sketchy stair case then I'm sure I'll change my tune.

I really wish someone within 3,000 miles carried these so I could just try em out myself

Can’t go wrong with either of those, but if it’s a 410 cab he wants he should do what Zoomie said and grab the BRX10.4 NEO before they’re gone!! Even forgetting the weight difference between the NEO and the ceramic, the sound of the NEO is very good while the sound of the ceramic is “TBD”.

:bassist:

I have the brx410,brx210 and just traded a schroeder cab for another brx 210. I keep the 410 at church and gig the 2 210's,they are a great versatile rig, played my 1st gig last weekend with the 2 210's stacked vertically.....I was very happy with results. i purchased before the brx 210 was $500,don't know that i'd pay that much.

If you like the sound of your Ampeg cab just get another 8ohm B410HE and make it 810 @ 500w @ 4ohms. Then you'll have a modular stack that will just plain out crush. :bassist:

While I do really like this idea it seems like it would be rather unsturdy. These cabs are relatively shallow and if stacked I could see it toppling and smashing my short guitar player. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... Wouldn't it only be 400w from the cabs? Plus I would have to lug around two of em, I think maybe I'll just keep that one ampeg cab to have something to mess around with in the house. I'm still searching craigslist and whatnot for used cabs just to weigh my options until tax money comes in and I make a drunken impulse buy and just get the BX500/BRX10.4 package

Well, if you're going with the "drunken impulse buy", you need to blow right by the BX500 and grab the BX1500/BRX10.4 combo. Since the 10.4 is rated at 1200 watts @ 4 ohms, might as well move some additional air.

I will warn you though.......

Hitting open D clears sinuses back to the 10th row.

Open A is a shave and a haircut so don't bring your wife/girlfriend to gigs.

Open E ? Brazilians for everyone !

Whatever you do, Never, EVER yank or thump Low B. While no one as every lived to tell about it, speculation is that you will either tear a hole in the space time continuim, or, summon Lucifer, light bearer, son of the morning; former seraphim cast out of heaven.

Perhaps you have heard of him? :D

Great now I have something else to debate. Unfortunately I won't be able to do too many "summonings" as I play 4 strings
