Carvin LB75 ressurection

After a while drying I've started to block sand the surface in prep for even more coats. My time is getting split up between home projects and the WBO Pseudo Supro for Winter Build Off 2022 .

This one literally WAS a rebirth tho.
That's what I thought and had hoped it would be in the WBO. :D

You're right:thumbsup: and maybe I should have had it in the WBO:cautious: but I just couldn't wait for the WBO to start to begin working on it:bag:. It was just sitting there calling me out;)!
But I also thought this was likely to happen, and then it did. I very likely would have done exactly the same thing. :cigar:

That looks fantastic

I'm really enjoying watching this old Carvin get a 2nd lease on life. As a kid before the internet I used to drool over the Carvin catalog and every one I've had has been a really solid bass. When are you gonna route for the MM bridge pickup? :smug:
I feel you on that one. My first real bass was a Carvin that I ordered from the catalog. All Koa neck through with an ebony board and JJ pickups. Probably my fist casualty of GAS after joining talk bass many moons ago. Wish I had that thing back.
Anyway, back to the scheduled programming. I'm in awe of the fine work being done here!

The finish work has been slow. The Tru-oil seems to be working on this one but I have been struggling with it on my six string build elsewhere. Anyway just received some 470uF 25 volt caps and changed out the 470uF 16V on the preamp. That will allow me to use this with my other setups having an 18 volt supply and still allow this to run off 9 volt. Only the one cap needed changing. Physically the same size.

And here it is done.

I'll clean up the board some more and attach some new wires to make it look better.

When you say "polishing as I go"...are you actually sanding and buffing each coat at this point? I could use deets on the entire process. I've got Lucifer back to where I'm not dissatisfied with it. I just need to push it to the finish line. But I'm looking for a pretty high gloss out of it, so tips would be appreciated.

Just applying the thin coat, letting it flash over and then buff out with a lint free cloth.

I checked back and originally this weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces:whistle:. If it ends up at 8 pounds 8 ounces I will have lost 6 ounces off this:hyper:. I'll confirm that once everything is buttoned up (UPDATE: it came in at 8 pounds 14 ounces as original so I must have missed weighing some hardware). Right now I am working on the nut with my pattern files:thumbsup:. I have a few different diameter I've collected over the years:bag:.
