Received the waterslide today. Here it is on the headstock. I'll start applying layers of lacquer next.

After further review, the play on the rug stands. We have good lacquer.
So there we have it. Seven good coats on top and looking fairly level. Let this harden up before wet sanding and then see if more coats are needed.

Do you pull the tape off while it's still soft, so it doesn't chip, or does it come off cleanly when it's cured?
I let it set for a while but remove it before the finish hardens too much. I have the tape placed below the surface anyway so if a little pulls off it will be on the side.
I got impatient and couldn't wait. I wet sanded the headstock and it worked. I'll wait a little longer before I polish it out though I may leave it satin yet.
