This topic has definitely been covered in a previous thread, where even the mighty greenboy touted previous iterations of carvin PA speakers as viable bass cabinets. But I wanted to revisit it since I have no idea why more people aren't doing this!
Living in San Diego I was able to hop over to the showroom the other day and try a B1000 on top of an LS2153. It was so money I couldn't believe it. The B1000 didn't put out quite enough wattage at 4ohms to allow for the kind of headroom I was looking for, but luckily I just found a B2000 for 400 on clist
The review. This cab sounded huge and really responded well to EQ. There was some unpleasant distortion between Eb and Gb on the 5th string, but I attribute that to the 600w of the B1000 and the string rattle on the showroom bass' new strings. The pro audio fellow used a powered mixer to play some recorded bass lines through the cab at super high volume and it was clean as hell. He also played some Sabbath mixes through the speaker and that's the first time I noticed that the tweeter was a bit harsh. I didn't notice at all while I was jamming. Ironically, I would never use this as a PA main, but as a bass cab it's exactly what I've been looking for.
I was totally sold on the cab in the room. I'm gonna fasten some casters to the bottom of the backside for a tiltback rolly configuration, and voila: cheap dually. Obviously I'll get a real dually as soon as finances permit, but for $260 this is a kickass alternative. This cab really did crush it...the whole tonal spectrum was all there, and my kidneys are still rattling from the lows. I have no idea why more people aren't doing this.
