you read the title, it says it all! I am looking at getting a Carvin Pro Bass 200 (PB200-15) for my cousin and I didn't know anything about this brand. this thing sounded great when I was playing on it and the guy was asking $150 for it.

good deal, yes or no? :bassist:

They went for about $400.00 new as I recall. I have a PB100-10. For being rate at 100W I'm really not all that happy with it. It works fine for practice, but the single 10" speaker just doesn't cut it.

For $150.00 I don't think you can go wrong, and it's got a bigger speaker and more power than the one I have does. I'd want to try it out next to a drum set to be sure. I thought mine had plenty of power until I played with a drummer.

yeah, this one is a 160 watt unit with a 15" sub! so 60 more watts and 5" more sub. plus from what I'm reading it can handle 2 - 8 ohm external cabs too!

did you ever use an external speaker to help get a little more power out of it, maybe a 1-15" cab might help put that drummer in his place! ha ha, silly drummers think that think louder is better!

If you do that, it looks like you are supposed to put the 8ohm internal speaker on one of 4ohm outs and then you could run two external 8 ohmers in parallel on the other 4 ohm jack.

But you'd only be sending about 40 watts to each external speaker. That probably isn't worth the extra headache of dragging around another cab.

I had a Carvie PB200 for years- I played the hell out of it in college too. Sold it for about that price. You're reading the specs wrong- you can either use the main attached speaker in bridged or you can use it and another 8ohm or 4ohm cab (or two differnt cabs altogether and not use the cab part of the combo- but what's the point in that? :D) Problem is that at only 80w per cab if you run two, the extra volume you get from using two cabs is pretty much negated because you're only putting 80w into each cab, and it's really not worth lugging a second cab along just for that.

It sounds nice enough- it's not particularly loud or fast in response, but it's a fine workhorse for lower volume stuff and can keep up with a moderate volume drummer (I had to dime it with a loud drummer).

EDIT: topper's post is showing me that you may have meant running two 8ohm cabs into one of the 4ohm outs- sorry, I misread that.

No can do. The model I have is 8 ohm period. I have thought of using it on my 410, but I have a head that I use for that.

ok, because I did end up putting $20 down well I was wait for my cousins check to clear so I was going to go pick that up today! I thought I it seemed like a fair price for what I was going to get out of it.

and maybe it would work to just run a 2-10 monitor style cab for the external speaker but I'll look at it a little closer when I pick it up and mess with it a little bit!

thanks for the feedback so far. but I do have one more question, I am looking for the information about the internal speaker and I wanted to know if I should have it plugged into the bridged 8 ohm output or one of the 2 - 4 ohm outputs? he had it plugged into the bridged output but I guess if the sub can handle that power thats what I would do too!

I got this and gave it to my cousin. my aunt almost killed me! she said its too loud but I told her that's part of playing the bass and that if she wanted to hear loud then she would have to come to my place and hear my Eden or Yamaha rigs!

That was a good deal and pretty decent practice amp. My daughter has one of those. I bought it for her a couple of years ago. It has been trouble free and can be made to sound decent with a little EQ. She used it as a keybooard amp for a while as well.

I used a PB200 for years, and YES you can hook up another speaker to give more sound. You're getting a GREAT deal if it is in good shape.I used to separate my cabs, one on each side of the band...It gave a "stereo" effect that we really liked. Carvin equipment is GREAT,and their service is also GREAT. I've told Carvin service stories over the board MANY times...I'd say buy it...
