Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 4!

My SB5000 is now at a UPS facility about 20 minutes from my house. But I can't go get it! Argh. I called UPS and asked if they'd just hold it there so I could pick it up, but no. They have to make at least one delivery attempt first. :rollno:
Hopefully, they'll wait until early tomorrow night so I'll be home. Friday the 13th, too. Hmm..

I have no problem with the output of my SB. Is the output low in active and passive modes?
If it is only low in active mode then you likely need to adjust the trim pot as listed in the link above. I adjusted mine so that the active level output was equal to the passive level output.
If it is low output while in passive mode could your pickups be too low? If that isn't it I would wonder about a wiring snafu.

Any SB owners who have a sticking stacked T/B knob? For some reason, I can't turn one without the other turning with it. Doesn't really bother me as I usually have my tone on "set and forget" but it takes two hands to make the adjustment which I don't think is right.

Still a great bass, and I cannot wait to order a second one soon.

Have you tried using an allen wrench to adjust it? A lot of times in shipping those stacked knobs get pressed down and need to have their set screw loosened and readjusted to proper spacing and tension.

Just loosen the set screws and reset the knobs and tighten. Happens all the time with stacked pots.

But a serious lack of pictures...

I'm curious if anyone here has bought a passive SB and installed a 3rd party preamp (Aguilar, etc) or even new p'ups altogether (I keep seeing an SB5000 with Nordstrand Big Singles... Ummmm...)

i considered ordering my sb5000 as passive only, but was told i could not return it if i ordered it that way.

also it was going to cost more.
