Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 5!

I'm not a slapper but Bass Wave is and he just received a new SB5000 with the low wide frets so maybe he'll chime in here on it.

I feel that low-wides feel smoother and I have no issue slapping with them at all. I also think IMHO that its easy to mute, and play percussive ghost notes, ect.

Not sure how to put it but...big frets appear clumsy to me. I prefer smaller frets in general.

They do feel smoother. When you slide up the fretboard, you don't get that click, click sound like you do from larger frets.

What about for chording, tapping, soloing in the upper register? Is that functional with low wides? Can anyone post a close up picture of their fretboard with low wides? I'd like to see what they look like up close.

Those are Aguilar SL 1x12 cabs I believe.

That's a handsome bass and rig...

Can't wait to post pics of all my new stuff when it comes in.

Talked to Carvin yesterday... My postcard said March 2nd, but they told me the bass will ship middle to end of next week.

I can live with that.

They are great for chording, etc. With bigger frets, when you press down on the string, it does change the pitch a little (out of tune). With the low wide frets, the strings are barely off the fretboard. I wish I had them on all my basses.

Hey Guys- Thanks for responses about my questions about the low-wide frets. After months of reading this forum, I pulled the trigger on my SB5000. Can't wait!

I ordered it with the white pearloid pickguard installed and ordered the additional tortoise shell pickguard to change the looks if I want. Here are the specs:

The great thing about Carvin basses (SB's and B's), you can always order/have them build an extra neck with the Low Wide frets.

And you can order backup necks, just in case an accident happens that ruins your current neck. Perfect fit every time:)

I have on a few occasions. It's pretty easy. I'd recommend taking off the pickguard first and of course the strings :) Other than that just go easy with the screws, don't over tighten or strip the heads. Gently work the neck out of the pocket and gently back in. In general, just work slowly and deliberately.
