FWIW, I played both 5001's and 5000's at NAMM and while that's not the optimal listening space, I was perfectly happy with both. I did end up going with a 5000, but that was ironically more about experiences with other basses and my personal tastes than it was anything I heard on the Carvins.I ordered the 5001 trying to get as light as possible but I don't care about weight enough to sacrifice the tone to the point where I just don't like it. Well see what happens when it comes in. I'm not fretting too much about it since I'll have 10 days to decide for sure.
