Its a soft offer by those who can put it together...However on one of the last couple of threads is a pic of the body.

I have come to the conclusion that I sound snifigently cleaner on 5 strings that have neck pickup (if it is a 2 pickup bass) further back (specifically on the B). I have a heavy attack and it shows on any J 5 (less with the SB).

So as much as I love the tone and playability I'm moving my SB5K

the combo of the trans black body with cream pickups sounds nice. Like the idea of an ash body. Low wide frets, hmmm...odd choice. What's the diff?

I don't think the low-wide frets are odd.
Its a tighter lower action and I feel that its less sloppy so to speak.

Just my preference.
Freddels might be able share some input as well...He prefers that as well. I always like the vintage smaller frets. after trying Will Lee's bass with small fret wire years ago I was sold.

Great videos. I don't know why , but for some reason I get nervous when I see the machines cutting into the wood. Lol I'm thinking "oh please don't mess up" even though I know that it's going to be perfect.

No really, these videos are both fascinating and really give you an appreciation for the work Carvin does. It still blows me away that they can do this kind of work at a price regular people can afford. Thanks for posting these clips!

Those vids are fun to watch. I used to work in a pretty low tech furniture factory, and watching a CNC machine do all that work in such a short time is really cool.

I've been playing around with some non-Carvin basses lately, and when I go back to my Carvins, the superior workmanship is immediately evident.

I just traded my SB4000 for another bass, and regretted it right away. Fortunately, the guy who I traded with wanted his old bass back too, so it's coming home to stay. :)

I have on a couple of basses. I bend the contacts down a bit to fit the shorter batteries versus putting something underneath.

On sep note, I pulled out my old 1993 Warwick Streamer Stage I at practice last night. Man that bass plays poorly compared to my SB5000. Granted it probably hasn't been setup in 4-5 years. The band liked the sound of the Warwick, but I couldn't wait to get back to my SB.

Well well well kids... Sounds like I'll be getting the official offer letter on Monday, but I've verbally accepted a position and start a new jobby job on April 1st!!! Excited about the job of course, but that also means I should be able to order an SB5000 soon!!! I've got money in savings, but I want to give the new day gig some time to settle in... Gotta be smart!

Being patient will be tough... It's going to be a pretty different 5k than most of what I've seen in this thread. ;) ;)

Hi guys allow me to join the Carvin SB 5000 club, I'm just few of guys who made this killer bass as the main axe in Indonesia. Seems not many knows it and though they know they're all still fender or high end minded JB bass like Sadowsky etc.

For me, my search of a perfect Jazz Bass tone and a versatile bass has ended through this SB. The clarity, the solid low notes and killer B string. It's all awesome.

It's an Alder, Maple, Ebony with standard VVTB.

After years of loving the sound and being annoyed by the buzz of the J99A pickups in my SB5000, and not much caring for the sound of the Carvin stacked humbuckers, I've done something drastic!

Last night I installed a set of Nordstrand NJ5S pickups, their five sting linear split coils. So far, I think its a winning setup. The NJ5S really nails the sound of a normal single coil jazz pickups, though its voiced a bit less aggressively than the J99A. I like the look of exposed pole pieces, so that's a bonus, too.

Did I mention there's no hum? :)

I'm going to carefully put away the J99As into my parts box where I can get them if needed, but I think the Nordstrands are sticking around.
