Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 8!

Also, I got shipping confirmation on my SB5k yesterday!!!
Got a voicemail and called back to confirm final payment... Got Steve on the phone and he remembered me. He actually said that he had just gone to check out my bass "because it had specs that he wouldn't have thought of, but it's OFF. THE. CHAIN." (His words!).
Scheduled for delivery on Wednesday while I'm at work, and because a signature is required, I might have to wait for them to try a couple times before I can go pick it up somewhere. I'm thinking I'll have it in my hands by Saturday...?

Agree with 'talk to Steve'. He's actually a bass player, and he loves the SBs, and it shows.
5sg, thanks for the props. I've already gigged her once and she cuts through the mix like a champ, just like others have said. What a keeper.
Regarding your delivery, you might be able to have them leave it at the closest UPS store, and you can sign for it there.

Been playing my SB5000 for a few weeks now and enjoying the all around tone that you can get out of this bass. This is my third SB5000 and my last. I have three Carvin basses so I'm set right now. One on my bass buddy said to me "You sure love some Carvin basses " and reply with " got that right ". Carvin got the SB5000 right on the nail.

Yep. He was awesome while we were working through my order... we chatted about all sorts of bass related stuff. His email signature includes a jpeg of his current SB.
I looked into having it held, but the way I understand it from the UPS website, they have to try at least once, and they give you some InfoNotice number or something. THEN you can have it held/changed.

Nice! You gotta bring it by the house some time, so we can try each other's SB. You can also dig into my Bromberg a spell, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how it performs. For me, it's the most perfect "production bass" I have ever owned. The SB is a very close 2nd...very close.
Also, don't forget about my envelope filter addiction.
I'm going with Rosewood. When I was at the Carvin store on Sunset, I played all of the SBs, and there was an alder/rosewood bass that was the most "aggressive" - in a good way - bass I tried. It made an impression. All of the SBs I've played have been great, and all of the wood combos seem to be more on the "aggressive" side than average. Probably the electronics?
Yeah man, for sure! It would be good to try yours out, because it's essentially what I was GOING to order before I got a wild hair and ordered what I ordered! lol I'd definitely love to try out that Bromberg too, for sure. I suspect I've been bitten by the Carvin bug and if my SB5k is as good as I'm hoping, I'll be super tempted to turn around and order another... the one I'd been planning on ordering in the first place. lol
I've also really wanted to try one of the new Pigtronix Bass Envelope Filters... have you happened to try one?
EDIT: Oh yeah... if you're interested, put July 7th on your calendar... We're doing a Colorado Bass Player GTG at Link Removed up near Boulder. Sounds like it'll be from 2-6pm that day!!! Scott Surine heard about it as well and he's going to be there with some of his customs...

Personally I am a huge fan of that tone control and think the whole passive w/tone control is one of the things that really sets these preamps apart. IMHO it adds far more to the tone palette than a mid sweep.
But to each his own and there really aren't any wrong choices with these Carvins. Looks like it'll be a purdy one!

+1 Had to remove my stacked Mid control preamp. The tone control it a lot better.
I thought about changing from stock since I have mid controls on other basses and like that control, but decided to give the stock setup a try after talking with Steve when I placed my order. I'm equally comfortable with vol/vol and master/blend setups, so I figured why not try something a little different.
