My SB5000 arrived yesterday and all I can say is, I was expecting this bass to be good based on the feedback here but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be this good. I was a little skeptical because I had an XB75 when they first came out way back when but I never really jived with it and I ended up selling it about 6 months later. With this one, I played it unplugged for a few minutes and I had a feeling that it was going to be good and I was right. It's amazing.

The bass looks great and it's well built. It plays very easy with nice low action and it sounds awesome. Out of the box it just needed a little neck relief and then it was good to go. The tone is very good through my BX500 and Ampeg mini cab rig but honestly, it sounds flat out jaw dropping with my Ashdown ABM500 and Eden 2x10 XLT rig. It's certainly good on both rigs but it just kills on the Ashdown/Eden combo.

One question for the rest of the SB owners - the jack doesn't seem to have a positive "click" when you plug in. It seems like you plug in and it just kind of stays there. I always loop my cable around my strap so it won't be an issue but just wondering if everyone elses jack is like that?

I have an audition tonight so I'll have a chance see how it sounds in a mix. My hopes are high!

Nice! I think the jack on my new PBJ is similar to what you are talking about on the SB and I haven't had any issues with it on gigs. Glad to hear you dig it.

How big is the body on these basses? I used to have a MIM Fender Deluxe 5 and I am kind of GASing for an SB5000, but physically they look like large basses in some of the pictures I've seen. My primary bass is a Fender MIA deluxe P bass 4 string, I'm kind of used to that size bass now. Maybe its just because the horn points up on the SB that makes it look large, but is it much bigger than a deluxe 5 jazz?

They're a tad on the big side but the comfort of these basses is awesome
(standing and sitting). Just wait. Very ergonomic design, if you ask me. This bass model will be around forever. Proof is in the classifieds. There are hardly any for sale compared to how many have been bought.

I don't think the body is any bigger than a jazz bass. The upper horn may make it look bigger.

I owned about five and if you skinny like me the horn going to poke you in the chest when sitting. Can be very uncomfortable at time.

Yes I did; 4 SB5000 and 1 Sb4000. I never used them sitting and the tone are so good that they worth giving up a small problem for me. here my last two:

Does the B40 come with 20 frets, a pickguard, and front-facing Jazz control plate?

My B40 does not unfortunately, and neither does it feel as good as my outward-horned SB4000

I guess that's no different than guys who have a Thunderbird or other bass with a shape that doesn't work well for seated playing.
