I guess everyone must be busy playing their SB's because I sure don't see many for sale and there hasn't much action around here.

there was a small rash of them for sale, when the initial news hit that they were discontinued. It was probably people who didn't really want to keep them anyway, thinking they could get a few extra bucks from panic buyers. No disrespect meant to the sellers.

I love mine. I'm so happy I picked one up. My new vanquish is great too, but there is something great about my SB5k that I just can't pinpoint.

My passive SB4000 is perhaps the best playing, sounding, and balanced bass I own.

At 8.4 pounds, it has a loud and snappy acoustic resonance to it, with a neck like butter. Interestingly, its J99A's sound better than another recent set of J99A's I installed into a different Carvin bass.

The SB headstock has been around so long now, and on other Carvin instruments, that I am no longer put-off by it. I just wish I could say the same for the tulip-flared cutways, but perhaps those are what supply the unbelievable mojo to this bass!

If anyone would like to sell their SB5000 (light weight)/5001, p.m. me because I could use a backup for when I start gigging in a month. This is with a band I subbed for a couple years ago and my Lakland started cutting out on me in the middle of the show and I had no backup. Not Lakland's fault because I bought with an after market preamp installed by the person I bought it from.

Agreed, but man, the other Carvin was practically identical in all woods, hardware, build, setup and strings that I was optimistic.

I still have mine. I don't play it much anymore, I use my PBJ4 almost exclusively now.

I've thought about selling my SB5000, but it's hard to part with.

I have a Fender Jaguar with X-Factor Alder. It's only my third best player. But it stays, because it's the best sounding bass I have ever played. Even unplugged.

I've had my eyes out for a SB5000 fretless and not seeing any on the market at all. I love my fretted SB5000 and started thinking about a fretless the week I received mine but that was when the model was discontinued.

Still diggin my natural ash SB4 with the mid option. Such a punchy, vibrant bass.
And yes...the tulip cutaways are why they sound so good. Something with the gravitivity and the polarity...
