I smell what you're stepping in...I have felt the same way at times. Since I got on the alder/ebony thing, I haven't felt like I needed a passive tone knob since the combination is dark enough by itself. When I had alder/maple basses I really did use it quite a bit.

I find the alder/ebony SB5000 to not need the passive roll off much if at all, while the stacked midrange EQ does ALOT of stuff. I find it to sound better than the same circuit on the East preamps (though not having had the Carvin out on a gig yet).

It isn't "tight". I think it's 19mm. It feels pretty much like the Fender Am Delux spacing. This good bass for thumping so I think the wider spacing is appropriate, but I like tight spacing too for playing fast.

swap out the bridge for a 17.5mm one. the nut is the same as a ray5 and with the 17.5mm bridge youll have the same spacing. there will be a little room on either side of the b and e strings but its easy to pull the g off the edge of the neck on a ray5 anyway.

I don't really think of EMG stuff as bright in a way that I want to roll off...it's kind of more of a slightly compressed thing with a present high end, but it isn't bright. I don't think the EMG thing is really accurate for this bass anyway. :confused: Look, I'm tired, I have a day job. :bassist: :(

Does the mid sweep upgrade eliminate the passive/active feature?
