Well we can debate the merits of Carvin's media production all day, but I am absolutely salivating over the thought of playing one of these basses. Gotta see tomorrow what's up with my order. And, although I vehemently disagree with the gussied up Kiesel Edition models for eye watering prices, I feel the company is in good hands with this guy Jeff.
they sound like nice jazz basses, especially with the single coils.
not a fan of that bridge pickup. too nasaly or midrangey as i had feared.. oh well.
they do still sound pretty good though. i think my next carvin will end up being another LB76, though.

i'm still so torn about the vader thing. i want a short scale 6, but not a 30"... lets all email them insisting that a 33" LB series would sell insane numbers
The 30-inch scale suits me, even for a 5-string, which I'd tune EADGC, but I'd really prefer a 16.5- or 17-mm string spacing. 19 is a bit too much for me in a 5-stirng. Strongly considering a 4. Somewhat interested in the 5, even with the 19-mm spacing.
Oh, I'm sure I could buy some, but I promised my wife I wouldn't make any modifications to my Icon.
I'll just have to buy a new bass that has them. I'm already plotting my next purchase...
In the new Vadar video, I'd be curious to see how the different amps were set. Supposedly, both basses are passive and have the same strings. The only difference is one bass has humbuckers and the other has single coils. It seems like a huge difference in tone for only different pickups.

Let's assume everything is the same: Yes, you can expect huge differences in tone, with different pickups. Especially when their base design is very different. And that is the case, here.
another video example of this from Kiesel/Carvin, is the Vanquish bass video, with Ben Jones. He plays vanquish basses with two different sets of pickups and they sound very different. I have since owned both sets of pickups (as well as many others, from other brands) and can confirm that they sound very different, in the same bass.
I was wondering the same thing, and from what I could tell in the video, the amp EQ was set flat on at least one of the amps.
By the process of elimination, I'll have to say at the headstock retainer as I see no access at the neck / body transition.
Another question: will the Vader (34") also accept Steinberger-esque double ballend strings? That would be a definite plus IMO as I'm not a big fan of some clamping systems.

i'm pretty sure they will take the double ball end strings- but why would you want too- im sure their locking nut works well.
then again, the reviews aren't quite out yet so who knows..
I'm hoping that, as well. Nothing beats the convenience of a double ballend string. My favorite is the Status HotWire series.

Can anyone who has played the 30-inch 4-string with the stock pickups comment on how it balances, feels, play, or sounds? I'm quite interested in one, but I haven't seen many reports on the SS 4-string.
Also, can one run long-scale strings on the short-scale Vader? The string-clamping mechanism on the Vader makes me think that might work. It would certainly open up string choice quite a bit.

Yes, you can use almost any typical bass string. the clamp setup means there is no need to worry about winding length, because that is specifically about the location of the tuning pegs, on a headstock.
I haven't actually played one. But, with no headstock and a 4 inch shorter neck, the balance on the 4 string should be fine. Even with the upper horn being further back than is usually ideal. Shortscale 4 strings, even with headstocks, usually balance fine.
Having 24 frets may be a little strange for reach and muscle memory. But I haven't actually played one...
Someone on the official Kiesel/Carvin forums recently recieved a six string shortscale, and posted a New Bass Day/NBD thread. You may want to ask them these questions!
