Case or Stand Where do you keep your basses?

I've recently started playing 5 string so as a good practice habit I keep out on a stand so I can pick it up when ever I have a free moment. I also have 2 fours and have been keeping them out on stands as well. Prior to this I always kept my basses in the case but I've found that I play and tinker with setup etc. more when they are out and readily available so lately I've been keeping them out. I was reading a post about humidity and its a affects on basses the other day and it got me thinking. So what is it for your resting basses TB'ers CASE OR STAND?

I used to keep most of mine on wall hangers, but the particulate matter in the air (especially during winter heating season - I burn wood) makes the strings go dead faster, so they're all in cases or gig bags now.

I'm not particularly concerned about humidity changes, they're all solid body instruments, but the dust and dirt and potential knocks from kids are more cause for concern for me.

The only time I put mine in their cases is when I think it's time for an earthquake. Humidity means little or nothing to a solid body.

So far, the last five quakes or so, I wasn't prepared and they were out on stands.

Most times - on stands, but like I mentioned, whenever an earthquake is scheduled I put them away in a much safer place.

I keep several on a 5-instrument stand for easy access. I try to alternate playing them (one each day). Those that don't get played as often are kept in their cases.

I'm sure it's a good idea to keep them in their cases, but I opt more for convenience. Of course I don't have little kids running around anymore... ;)

I have two 3-guitar stands (The Warwick rockstand) and 1 single guitar stand that are all set up by each other for my guitars and basses. I find it easier to just leave them out so I can grab whatever I want to play whenever I want to play it. I don't have pets or kids, so I don't worry about damage.

I keep my MIA Jazz in it's case, the Squier Jazz and SX P-bass are out on stands for easy access. Main reason I got the Squier in the first place was because my MIA was getting into too many "accidents" (bumps,tip-overs, spilled drinks) being left out for that same easy access. Made me a little nervous. I'm still a little nervous about bumps and bruises, I really like my Squier and SX, but only $100- $300 worth of nervous as opposed to $1200 worth.

Mine are all hanging on walls down in my man cave. I love having the über-easy access to whichever one I feel like playing, plus they are great conversation pieces when I have company. The only problem I have is that I'm running out of wall space.

I feel your pain....I guess I'll have to start another row on the other wall :bassist:

I have a 7-bass stand that I built with my dad-in-law. It's made of oak and koa scrap wood that he had in the shop. All surfaces that touch the axes are covered foam wrapped and covered with microfiber. There is a cantilevered shelf behind the necks, where I keep batteries, polishing cloths, GAS money, etc. Each of the seven positions are labeled Monday; Tuesday; Wednesday; etc. I have cases for all of my basses, but those are only for travel.

Here's an old photo...the only bass I still have is the Ric.
